Tip 1- Don't get too comfortable. When stylists become busy and booked they become complacent and comfortable. This is especially true with regular clients. It is important to find out what the client wants every single time they sit in the chair. You must recognize that clients change and their needs change.
Tip 2- All about the extras. The keys to maintain a loyal clientele is to find new ways to sell new services to existing clientele. You should constantly seek out new styles and trend and offer those looks to their clientele. The stylist is considered the professional and expert. Use that to your advantage and don't be afraid to make suggestions.
Tip 3- Tech! With technology changing and making things so much easier, it is essential to use this in the salon. Show pictures of the latest celebrity cuts via your iPhone or laptop. Go one step further and take a before and after picture and display it on the computer for them to view. Email them the photos and this will help set you apart from other stylists.
Tip 4- Ask, Ask, Ask! Most clients will not complain or ask for a service to be redone. They will simply go somewhere else. Sometimes it is because they are embarrassed or afraid to hurt your feelings. Or they may just lose trust because you didn't give them the look they wanted. Make sure you constantly ask open ended questions and allow the client to talk. Let them that you want to take care of them and will not be upset.
By following these tips you can lock in a clientele that will stay with you for a long time!
