How to Keep Weeds Out of Cracks in Sidewalks Naturally

Donna Daniels
Weeds like to grow in the cracks of sidewalks and patios. Anywhere you have a crack on the ground you can find weeds that want to grow there. Chemicals work well at keeping the weeds away but they can be dangerous to use and expensive too. There are natural ways to rid the weeds from areas where you do not what them to grow. It is always best to use natural ways instead of chemicals. Natural products help keep the earth more in balance. Using chemicals can alter the environment and if you are exposed to certain chemicals they can hurt you. You can use chemicals and they may not have any effect on you at the moment but they may hurt you later on.

One way to keep weeds from growing in cracks and crevices is to spill some baking soda onto the area that you want to keep the weed out of. Just spill some baking soda onto the area and sweep the cracks and crevices full of the baking soda. The baking soda will add sodium to the area and keep the weeds away. It is less hospitable for weeds to grow where sodium is concentrated. Baking soda is a clean and natural way to keep weeds away since baking soda is a cleaner too.

Another way to keep weeds from growing in cracks is to put salt on the area. Just do the same thing as described with baking soda except use salt. Salt can create other problems so baking soda is a better choice.

You can use borax in the cracks to keep the weeds away. Borax is a natural product that also does a nice job of keeping weeds from growing where you do not want them too. Keep animals and children away from borax since it can make them sick.

If you have a problem with ants you can put cayenne pepper where you do not want the ants to cross and the ants will avoid the cayenne pepper.

Any time you can use a natural product instead of a chemical it is best for you and the environment. Natural products are made by nature and they have been altered very little making them a safer alternative to some of the more powerful chemical choices available. Always use natural products instead of human made chemicals when you can.
