If this sounds enticing to you, keep reading on to find out what you need to know before you take the kickboxing challenge.
At present, one trendy form of kickboxing is branded as aerobic or cardiovascular kickboxing, which combines facets of boxing, martial arts, and aerobics to offer an overall physical conditioning and toning. Cardio kickboxing doesn't involve physical contact between participants - it is purely a cardiovascular exercise that is done mainly because it offers many benefits to the body.
The Cardio Kickboxing workout employs the training routines used by fighters in the sports of boxing, American style kickboxing and Thai style kickboxing and adapts them for the mainstream general public. The aim isn't to transform participants into fighters. It is to provide them an overall total-body workout that unites a cardiovascular workout with the skills for self-defense.
The many kicks and punches involved in cardio kickboxing improve endurance and coordination, which is supreme in any fitness routine. Due to the high intensity level of cardio kickboxing exercise, one can easily burn from 500 to 800 calories in one workout. Cardio kickboxing also provides a great venue for weight trainers who never undertake cardio exercise for lack of enthusiasm.
However, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind before diving into the cardio kickboxing bandwagon. Firstly, you should be aware of your current fitness level. Cardio kickboxing is a high intensity exercise that cannot be performed by every one. If you are returning to the world of fitness after a long time, it's probably not a good idea to initially undertake kickboxing. The only thing that could be resulting from this venture is physical exhaustion, which could affect your enthusiasm and drive to achieve ultimate fitness. It's recommended that you start off by undertaking some form of low intensity exercise at the beginning, and gradually work your way to the required fitness level to reap the benefits out of cardio kickboxing.
Secondly, you should consult a qualified kickboxing trainer. He or she should have a high-level martial arts belt AND should be a certified fitness trainer. Do not attempt kickboxing by yourself. Proper style and form, which can only be achieved through a certified trainer, will pay rich dividends in the end.
Work at the level that feels comfortable for you. Listen to your body, and work at your own pace. You are more likely to quit an activity if it proves to be too much of a chore rather than a fun filled activity.
Wear proper clothing that feels comfortable. Do not wear tennis shoes. Wear cross trainers as they allow side to side movements.
Lastly, drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
Cardio kickboxing is a fun filled activity that delivers results fast. However, as is the case with any other activity, you need to be consistent in order to achieve results. Sick to it, and you will start seeing those muscles that are buried underneath.
