How Your Kids Can Help You Improve Your Scrapbook Pages

Scrapbook experts will tell you that journaling or writing in your scrapbook is just as important as adding the pictures. For example, vacation pictures in a scrapbook by themselves may tell most of the story, but if you want to record the whole story you will need a written record of the vacation as well. A perfect vacation scrapbook will have written memories of the vacation on the pages along with the pictures. Years later, you will be able to read about the vacation and remember specific events you may have otherwise forgotten. Unfortunately, many people develop severe writer's block when it comes to journaling in their scrapbooks. Maybe it's the pressure of having to tell the whole story yourself when your entire family experienced the event. Involving your kids in the journaling process of your scrapbook will solve this problem and make your scrapbook better than ever.

Instead of having your entire scrapbook written only from one person's perspective, you will end up with a book full of memories directly from every member of your family. You can involve the kids, your husband, or anyone else who was part of this event. All you have to do is give each kid a journaling block or small piece of paper and have them write down their memories of the event. After memories are written down, adhere the journaling blocks with the appropriate pictures. If you have young kids or people who don't want to write, you can just ask them to tell you what they remember and you can write it down in their words. There are a few ways you can do this. Look at the examples below written about a kid's memory:

"I was scared to go on that gigantic roller coaster at first because it went WAY up into the clouds. But after I rode it, I had a blast and
wanted to ride it again and again and again. It was so awesome! I can't wait to tell all my friends." --Emily

or

Emily said she was afraid to ride the "gigantic" roller coaster when she first saw it, but she was glad she finally did. She thought the ride was "awesome" and she can't wait to tell all of her friends.

Adding quotes or stories from the kids' perspectives to your scrapbook will make the album so much more interesting. The kids will enjoy showing their friends their part in the scrapbook, plus the kids will take more pride in the scrapbook since they were able to have a part in it. Years later, it will be fun for each kid to read back on what they once wrote.

Having your kids take part in the journaling of the scrapbook will not only help reduce your writer's block, but it will also increase the quality of your scrapbook. Also, the kids will love being included in the making of the book. Your kids' own written memories will be a priceless treasure they can share with their own kids and grandchildren one day.
