How to Make Kids Party Favors for a Princess Themed Party

Easy to Make Crafts for Girls' Birthday Parties

Amber S.
Are you thinking of hosting a princess themed party? Here are some great handmade favors for girls that are simple and easy to make and will be appreciated by any little girl. Handmade gifts are much higher quality that cheap plastic toys and will last much longer.

Filigree Jeweled Rings

Very pretty and fancy rings can be made with very little effort. You will need some small metal filigree findings from the craft store (brass or silver colored will work fine) about 1 to 1 ½ inches long and some medium plastic rhinestones. While holding one of the findings in the center with a pair of large pliers, use another pair of pliers or your hands to bend the ends of the finding down into a circular shape. Use heavy-duty craft glue to glue a rhinestone into the center of the top of the ring. If the glue is good enough, the stone will not come off of the ring if it is knocked or pulled on. You can also opt to make the rings plain without the jewel on top. These rings look very realistic and are fun for adults to wear, too!

Jeweled Crown Party Hats

A very simple crown can be made from gold or silver colored elastic and sewn-on plastic rhinestones. The elastic should be around one inch in width. Measure around your daughter's head to get an idea for how large the crowns should be. Take that length and make each crown a little less than one inch shorter.

All you need to do is cut the length of elastic and sew the ends together to make a loop. In the center of the loop, sew on a large plastic rhinestone jewel. Sew two more little jewels, one on either side of the larger stone. These can be pulled on easily and worn as a band around the forehead. If you are unable to find metallic elastic, you can make the crowns from metallic cloth and sew a piece of regular elastic across the back so that it can stretch.

Magic Wand Pencils

Magic wands are easy and fun to make. You will need sparkly or holographic pencils, star-shaped erasers, and some sparkly ribbon. Place the star erasers on the ends of the pencils and tie ribbons around each pencil just under the star. Using scissors, drag the sharp end along the ends of the ribbon to make curls. The girls can pretend they are magic wands and they can also use them to write with.

Sparkling Diamond Necklaces

Sparkling diamond jewelry can be made from crystal-cut plastic beads, fishing line, and clasps. String the "jewels" onto fishing line and attach clasps at each end so that they can easily be clasped around the neck.

Make-Your-Own Bracelet Kits

To make little bracelet kits, you will need lots of various plastic beads, some thin plastic string, and small zip-top bags or other containers. In each bag, place one or two pieces of plastic string and a small handful of plastic beads.

Treasure Candles

Candles should not be burned by children, but if you include some instructions and make sure they have an adult burn them, they can be a lot of fun for kids. You will need a candle pouring kit to make them. When pouring your candles, pour a little in the bottom of your mold, then add a treasure item. Cover this item and add another. Make sure that each treasure is near the edge of the candle and far away from the wick. You do not want them to get burned or damaged by the flame.

Some great treasures to put in the candles include the filigree rings above, coin money, and flat glass marbles. Small metal charms are also nice and these can be purchased at most craft stores that sell bead and jewelry supplies.

Wishing Stones

Wishing stones are fun to carry around or keep in your pocket for good luck. To make wishing stones, write a wish or word onto a piece of paper and glue it to the back of a flat glass marble. Large stones look just as nice as small ones. Paint the back of the picture and seal it to the glass stone with clear acrylic sealant. I like to use words like "dream, imagine, wish, believe, faith, hope, love, etc." You can also use pictures of fairies or other pretty images.

Gift Bags

Your gift bags can also be reusable. If you are just a little good at sewing, you can make them from pretty sparkly cloth. All you need to do is sew up some drawstring bags about 5"x10" and place the gifts inside. If you would rather the bag have handles, sew a rectangular bag shape and then attach handles made from wide ribbon or fishing line strung with sparkling plastic beads.

So cute. I'd love to do this with my granddaughter. However, she lives clear across the U.S. on the opposite coast so chances are slim I'll ever get the opportunity.
