How to Kill Insects Effectively

Keith Dailey
For centuries, people have used natural insecticide; so, at least you know it is effective in eliminating insects. If you would like to know the inner workings of this process, read on.

Diatomaceous Earth is one natural insecticide that consists of skeletal remains of plankton, which punctures the insects' bodies. By doing so, the insects get dehydrated, drying them up and blowing them away.

Another natural insecticide is rote-none; this consists of the derris plant's roots. This gets rid of insects through stomach poisoning. However, this may take a while and needs constant re-application for optimum effect.

Additionally, rote-none keeps insects at bay from plants. If not properly poisoned, the insects will cease to grow and stop eating. Sabadilla also kills through stomach poisoning.

Pyrethum is another natural insecticide that hails from Ecuador and Kenya. It is a species of chrysanthemum that gets rid of insects through paralysis. It takes effect in an instant on any type of insect.

One major downside of pyre-thrum is that it wears off after a while. Since pyre-thrum cannot kill, it is often used in conjunction with poisons that can.

The natural insecticides that are used in termite control industries work differently, though; they simply make termites lose their appetite, so that they cannot eat at all.

Termites will then get disoriented from the damage done to their nerve endings. Their nerve endings differ from those of animals and people, making them harmful only to termites. Because of these problems, the termites will die out in the end.

Bacillus thurengiensis or Bt is a bacterial natural insecticide that is used prevalently nowadays. Ideally, it is used on insect eggs that are just about to hatch. Once the young insects come out of the egg, they will end up eating the toxins and getting poisoned. The poison will make them stop eating and they will then starve to death.

Another way to get rid of insects is through neem preparations, a natural insecticide that sends bugs away through active ingredients that copy insect hormones. This makes it impossible or difficult for them to digest food and stops their reproduction cycle. This usually works best on leaf-eating insects.

Non-plant natural insecticides use dehydration as a tool to get rid of insects, similar to diatomaceous earth. On contact, chalk instantly dries out insects, while mineral oil either suffocates or dries them out, as well.

If you want to use readily available products, mix cow's milk with water and flour to create a natural insecticide. This is very effective in killing off insect eggs and destroying insects by suffocating them.

Corn meal can also be sprinkled around plants to kill off insects. If an insect eats the cornmeal, its stomach will swell up and the insect itself will then explode.

As can be seen, there are various ways to kill insects, whether it be through simple poisons or through more exotic ways. Knowing how natural insecticide kills insects may not be essential, but you should know that it works.
