How to Kill Ladybugs that Enter Your Home

Alicia Bodine
Ladybugs are colorful insects with tiny black dots on their backs. These insects help control the aphid population in outdoor flower and vegetable gardens. Unfortunately, they can become quite a nuisance when they enter your home. Ladybugs will visit your indoor plants, but you will most likely find them congregating around your lamps and windows. Killing the ladybugs as soon as you discover them is the best option, and it isn't as hard as you may think.

You will need the following items to kill the ladybugs:

Glue traps
Light traps
Vacuum
Tape

Follow these steps to kill the ladybugs:

Step 1:
Attach a few glue traps to your window sills. Ladybugs head toward windows because they see the light that is coming in from outside. When they land or crawl on the glue traps, they will become stuck. Eventually, they will die and you can remove the trap.

Step 2:
Put light traps in various places throughout your home. Ladybugs are attracted to light. They go toward the light by dropping down a funnel in to a bottle, but they can't get back out. Eventually, they will die and you can throw the trap away, or clean it out and use it in the future if any ladybugs return.

Step 3:
Attach a hose to your vacuum, and vacuum up all of the ladybugs you see. Change the vacuum bag and toss the ladybugs out with the trash. Cover the vacuum bag hole with tape before you toss it in the trash so the ladybugs can't escape.

Tips:
Seal all entrances to your home so that the ladybugs don't re-enter the home and cause the same problem all over again.

Warnings:
Use chemical insecticides as a last resort. There are sprays and foggers that will work to kill ladybugs, but they are dangerous to use around humans and pets.
