How to Make Your Kitchen Look Great with Less Money

BS
A kitchen is one of the most important rooms in a house or apartment, so it's important that it looks great. We've all seen those kitchens in the magazines and on television decorating shows that look amazing, those kitchens that everyone wants but very few people can actually afford. For a lot of people, the kitchen is a room where a lot of time is spent, and one that a lot of people put a lot of thought and effort into decorating. Unfortunately for most people, the funds for decorations are not as big as they would like it to be. For those people, there are ways to make your kitchen look great without spending a fortune.

Paint the kitchen walls

A white kitchen doesn't have much personality. The great thing about a kitchen is that it is a space where a huge range of colors will work great. The best colors for a kitchen are always the brighter ones. Yellows, reds, oranges (warm colors), will be great in a kitchen, but the more neutral colors also make for a beautiful kitchen. Painting is one of the first things you should do when renovating or decorating your kitchen. It always adds a little bit of yourself into the space.

Add a border

After you have done the painting, you can add a wallpaper border to your walls. Doing this is not at all necessary, but it does add a little bit more detail to the room, as long as you pick one that matches the color scheme you have chosen for your kitchen. If you are handy with a paintbrush, you can even add a border yourself, just be sure that you are extremely careful. If you choose to paint the border of the kitchen yourself, draw it on the wall first so that you do not make any mistakes.

Lighting the kitchen

A kitchen should never be a dark space. Make sure that the windows are opened so that they let the daylight in everyday. Adding a mirror to the kitchen not only adds an decorative piece, but if you place in front of a window, it can help spread the light. There are many stores where decorative mirrors can be found, the best places to start your search for a great looking mirror is vintage stores, secondhand shops, or goodwill stores. Even if the mirror is slightly beaten up, you can fix it very easily, but if you don't find anything, stores like Target and Wal-Mart always have great things at low prices.

Give the kitchen cabinets a new coat of paint and change the knobs

If you have moved into a brand new house, the chances are that your cabinets already look great, so you may be able to skip this step. If you are not fortunate enough to have a brand new house, giving the cabinets a coat of a fresh paint will greatly help your kitchen. You can paint them the same color, or choose a completely different color. When you are done painting, or have chosen not to paint, change the knobs on the cabinets to something that fits better with the decor of your kitchen. Be careful though, this can get to be very expensive if you do not count your cabinets and pick a knob that is higher priced.

Accessorize your kitchen

Obviously, the kitchen is a place for food, and there are many ways that you can incorporate that into the decor of your kitchen. Use your cookbooks for a display. You can also use a spice rack for decoration. Another good idea is to bring plants into the kitchen to bring a little life into the room. Buying a jar or a bottle and filling it with uncooked pasta noodles also makes a great accessory. As mentioned before, secondhand shops are great for kitchen accessories, there you can find paintings, and all sorts of things that make great kitchen decorations.

Having a beautiful kitchen doesn't have to be expensive!
