How to Get Knots Out of Your Cats Fur

There are several ways to remove the knots from your cats fur. You will have to choose the method you think will get the knots out. If the knots are really bad you might need to shave the cat in the areas where the knots are located. You can also take the cat in and have a groomer shave the cat in the areas because they are better with handling animals and they have assistants hold the animal also. You could end up with a hurt cat and scratched arms. I would suggest calling a groomer if it's to the point where you can't cut the knots out or brush them out gently.

You can give the cat a bath to try and wet the hair down which will make it easier to remove the knots. You can use a brush and gently work your way from the bottom up until the knots are completely gone. You can feel where the skin meets the fur and you can try to cut a little bit of the knot off of the top. You take the risk of cutting the skin so you will need to be extremely careful. If you are too scared you may accidently cut the skin you should try to get the cat wet and brush them out completely instead of cutting the knots out.

You can also try using some no tangle spray or conditioner to make the hair easier to manage. Long haired cats are often prone to getting knots in their fur. Since they have long fur it's easier to knot up and harder for the cat to clean constantly. You will need to brush the cat daily in every area once the knots are out to avoid having to shave the cat or get the knots out a second time. The best way to completely eliminate the problem is keep the cats hair shaved which looks somewhat funny for a long haired cat.

As long as you brush your cat and completely eliminate small knots before they get too large it won't take much each day to eliminate a big problem. The cat will also help keep himself knot free but he or she alone cannot stop the problem. If your cant doesn't mind water I would suggest baths on a regular basis. If your cat, like most cats, doesn't like the water than you are left with shaving the cat or gently brushing out the knots. Make sure you aren't ripping the fur out of the cats skin because it's very painful. Imagine someone ripping hair out of your head that was tangled in a knot. The cat will often get upset if something hurts so you will know if you are being too rough.
