How to Know God and Develop a Personal Relationship with Jesus Christ (Yeshua the Messiah)

Hartley Engel
How do you get to know God? Well, the first step is to receive Jesus Christ (Yeshua the Messiah), as your Lord and Savior. You do this by admitting you are a sinner, by turning from your sin, and by believing that Jesus died on the cross for you and was buried and rose from the dead. Then, through prayer, invite Him to come into your life as your personal Savior.

"If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved" (Romans 10:9-10)

You might want to pray something like this (the exact words are unimportant):

Dear God of Abraham, I confess I am a sinner and need forgiveness. I now turn from my sins. I believe that on the cross, Jesus (Yeshua) shed his precious blood and died for my sins. I receive Him as my personal Savior and eternal King. Thank you for cleansing me of my sin, and help me to live a life that is pleasing to You. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

The next step is to develop an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Dr. Charles Stanley, the founder of In Touch Ministries and senior pastor of First Baptist Church Atlanta, offers five steps that will help you cultivate your relationship with the Lord:

First of all, spend time alone with Him. You have to make an effort to meet with Him regularly.

Get to know what He thinks - read the Bible, pray, and listen to sermons.

Observe what God does in other people's lives and also in your own.

Tell Him honestly what you are thinking and feeling. It is important to be open and transparent.

Be still and listen to Him. He will speak straight from His Spirit to your spirit and quiet your troubled heart.

It is also imperative that you worship and fellowship with other believers and that you tell others about Jesus (Yeshua) the Messiah.

Enjoy your relationship with the Lord! He will comfort you in times of need and will provide you with confidence, peace, wisdom and an inner joy that is indescribable. But most importantly, He will give you eternal life - a life with no pain, heartache, disease or death.

Peace be with you.

Awesome. My job was eliminated yesterday and I am once again - unemployed. It was only a part-time position but it helped with the bills. I had to remind myself, "God is in control, we live by faith - He has something better in store." Being saved doesn't translate into an 'easy life' but it does give you an eternal perspective :) cheers

Another excellent piece Hartley. I'd hate to think what my life would be like without Him in it.
