How Do You Know when It's Time to Quit Your Job?

Have you started feeling burnt out? Are you frustrated with your boss or coworkers? Have you become fed up with clients chewing you out? The decision to quit your job is a huge one. How do you know if it's just time to take a vacation or if it's really time to call it quits? There are several things you should consider before you make a decision to quit your job.

First and foremost, determine how your job is affecting your health. If you are over worked and over stressed you may be feeling the strain both mentally and physically. If this is the case you need to evaluate your position. No job, position or amount of money is worth risking your health and happiness. A job can be replaced. Your good health and happy memories cannot.

Is their room for growth and advancement in your position? If not, it may be time to move on. When you become bored at work you also become dissatisfied with your job and with yourself in general. Your self worth is lowered. It is very important to find a job position that allows for constant growth professionally and personally.

If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe with anything going on in the workplace, remove yourself from the situation immediately. It is not good for you mentally and could even cause problems physically if there is some sort of altercation. Bottom line, if you don't feel safe in your workplace, leave.

Be mindful of your family. If you are unhappy in your workplace, it is probably affecting your family when you come home stressed, unhappy, or angry. Talk to your family and have them advise if they think it would be a smart idea for you to change careers for the sake of the family or loved ones.

Make sure that you check out other job options. It will make things much easier for you, and your family, if you have a backup plan lined out. Your family should support you in your decision, but you will make it easier on them by assuring them that everything is still going to be taken care of. This is a good time to make use of any contacts you have made through the years to see what options are available to you. Just be sure that the offers your receive are going to help you provide for you and your family the way you have been thus far. Check out new offers and their benefits. If something is offered that is much better keep it on your list to consider.

Pay close attention to your finances. Have you been getting paid what you deserve? Have you asked several times for a review and raise without acknowledgement? Could you afford to live for a time while you are "in between" jobs? Consider all of these things before making your decision.

Change is hard. You've heard it a hundred times. Some people stay in a position for years and years because it is what they know. There is always another options. Allow yourself to explore new things. Who knows what you may encounter.
