You are sick. This might seem obvious but many people overlook this. If you are sick you need to stay at home. Most people have some sort of sick leave or paid ti time off. However we often try to push ourself and go to work anyway. This is not smart for a number of reasons. First you are prolonging the time that you will be sick and not feel well. Second, you will make coworkers sick. This will continue the cycle of people in the work place getting sick. The bottom line is, if you feel sick take time for yourself and stay home. Work will still be there when you get well.
Your family is complaining that they never see you. This is always an indicator that it is time to take some time off from work. Your family will most certainly began to let you know when they haven't seen much of you. If your family starts dropping such hints, it's time to take some time off from work.
You can't remember the last time you did something fun. This is again another prime example of an indicator that you need a break from work. When you've become so involved in your work that you can't remember the last time you did something fun it's time for a break. Take a vacation and get some much needed rest. Spend time with family and friends. Do whatever you need to get a break from your 9-5.
You are extremely exhausted. Sometimes you just simply get tired. The winter months can bring about cold temperatures. Often it is tough to get out of bed and make it to work. Or, perhaps you are just tired because you have been working so much. Give yourself a break and take the day off. When you are so tired that you fall yourself falling asleep early, or when you are trying to do something fun, you need to take a break.
Work is a part of life. But all work and no play is good for no one. Take care and provide for your family but also remember to take care of yourself. Look for the signs that you need a break. In the end, If you work hard, play hard also!
