How to Know Jesus

Building a Relationship with Christ

Sarah Holmes
Jesus is the son of the Almighty Living God. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever. He is a rock. He is a strong foundation that you can build your life upon. You can never go wrong by having Jesus as your friend. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He is always the same. You can count on Him to be with you through thick and thin. He is never changing. He is loyal. He is passionate. He is the best friend and lover a person could ever have. He will stand by your side and be your friend if you will accept Him.

Jesus is my best friend and I would like to share with you how He can be yours too! He is a constant companion who gives me peace in the midst of the storm. Jesus is not a person, He is God. He came to earth, half man and half God. He is not a prophet. He is God. He is not the brother of satan. He is God. Satan is a fallen angel. Jesus is God. Jesus is our advocate before a just and holy God. He died on the cross and rose from the dead for you. This was His gift to you. You can choose to accept or deny this gift, but this is His gift to you. He has offered to clear you of the penalty of death and to forgive all of your sins. He is God and he has authority to do this. He lived a complete sinless life for you!

Jesus died on the cross in order to bring us into a right relationship with Him. He wants to be friends with you. He wants to be your best friend. I am writing this article so that I can share with you how Jesus can be your best friend.

The first way that Jesus can be your best friend is to accept the gift. Accept the gift that Jesus offered to you on the cross. He died for you and He paid the penalty.

The next way to have a close relationship with Jesus is to read His love letter to you. That's right! He wrote a love letter to you. The Bible is this love letter. It is a gif t to you. Read Song of Solomon where God confesses His passionate love to you. Read Genesis where God chose to walk on earth with Adam as His chosen friend. Read about God's wrath and anger in the Old Testament. Why did God have this wrath and anger? Because He cares for you! He was unhappy with those who chose not to follow Him. Many of these people were hurting, killing and raping the babies and people that chose to have a close relationship with God. God will have vegence upon those who treat his family poorly. If you are a child of God, God will protect you. He will be an advocate for you. He will make sure that anyone who seeks to harm you or who does harm you will regret it. When we read about God's wrath and vegence, it is easy to interpret it the wrong way. God loves us. If someone harmed my child, you can bet I would have wrath. In the same way, God cares for you. If you choose to reject God and then you seek to harm God's people, God will defend His people and you may witness God's wrath upon you. If you choose to be God's chosen and seek a relationship with him, God will protect and defend you as if you were His child. You can count on that!

The last and most important way to building a close relationship with Jesus Christ is through prayer. You can pray. Prayer is often over exalted. Prayer is not some mystical and arbitrary token to God. Prayer is constant communication you would have with a friend or your lover. Prayer is thankfulness. Prayer is requests, and prayer is worship to an Almighty and Omnipotent God. Prayer is building your relationship with God one communication block at a time. Talk to God through Jesus like you are his friend.

Here is a prayer you can start with,

"Dear Jesus,

Today, I want to be your friend. Thank-you for dying on the cross and raising again so that you could have a relationship with me. Thank-you for the awesome opportunity to be your friend. Please teach me how to be your friend, companion and lover.

In Jesus Name, Amen."
