How to Know How Well an Interview Went

Debi Rideout
You really want that job position that you just interviewed for. How well did you really do? There are many signs during an interview that can clue you in on whether you are getting the new job position or not. So really think about what happened during your job interview. Here are some tips on how to know how well an interview went:

Body Language
Body language can tell you a lot during a job interview. Does the person who interviewed you seem like they were really interested in you and what you had to say? What were their facial expressions like? Were they smiling and nodding a lot? Did they take notes when you were talking? These are all positive indicators that your job interview was going well.

Questions and Answers
It is pretty easy to know if your job interview is going badly or not. Did you feel confident answering questions during the interview? Although everyone usually gets nervous during an interview, you usually have a gut feeling if you are answering the interview questions correctly. A good sign that your job interview is going well is if the person interviewing you asks you a lot of questions. The more detailed questions they ask you the more they are interested in you for the job position. As long as you showed them that you met all their job requirements, then your interview probably would have been a good one.

Salary
If the person who is interviewing you goes into a lengthy discussion about your salary, this is a good sign. Most interviewers will not go into detailed discussions about the job salary unless they are really considering you for the job. Asking you what your salary expectations are is a good sign. Although it is a tricky question to answer if you answer it right it might clarify that you are definitely the right person for the job position. So if they are the ones to bring up the salary topic that is pointing your interview into a positive direction.

Tour
Taking a tour of a place of business that you may be working in is a huge sign that the interview is going well. Most employers will not waste their time showing you around if they do not think you are a good fit for their company. If they take the time to introduce you to other staff, that is another good sign. Plus, if the person who interviews you starts talking about future plans for you, that is a really positive sign that your job interview is going well. People who are not doing well in their job interview have short interviews, but people who have longer interviews are having good interviews.

Ending Job Interview
How the end of the job interview goes will definitely tell you if you had a good job interview or a bad one. If you get asked back for a second interview that is a really good sign. When they tell you when you will hear back from them is also a sign whether or not you did well on the job interview. If they just say casually that they will get back to you, then that might be a bad sign. However, if they tell you an exact date and time of when you should expect to hear back from them, that is a positive sign that the job interview went well.

It is important to know the signs of how to know how well an interview went. While these indicators do not guarantee you are getting the job, they probably at least signal that you did not blow the interview completely.
