How to Make Kraft Macaroni and Cheese in the Microwave Oven
Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, Also Known as Kraft Dinner, Can Easily Be Prepared in Your Microwave Oven
In the past, Kraft included the microwave cooking directions printed on their Macaroni and Cheese boxes. But once Kraft came out with their Easy Mac product, a dinner where you just add water and microwave, they removed the microwave directions on their original Macaroni and Cheese boxes.
As a former college student and now the mother of young children, I cherish my method of making Kraft Macaroni and Cheese in the microwave oven. I find it is so much easier, and safer, using the microwave method compared to the traditional method of boiling water. I no longer have to worry that my child will get near a pot of boiling water, and my kids love helping me make their favorite meal.
To prepare Kraft Macaroni and Cheese in the microwave oven, you will need a 2-quart microwaveable dish, 1-1/3 cups hot water, 1/4 cup butter or margarine, 1/4 cup milk, and a 7.25 ounce package of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Original Flavor.
In your microwaveable dish, add 1-1/3 cups hot water. Pour the pasta from the box into the hot water (be sure to remove the packet of cheese sauce first!). Stir the pasta and put the uncovered dish in the microwave oven. Cook for 7-9 minutes on HIGH. You must stir the pasta every 1-2 minutes to avoid having the pasta stick together which will ruin the meal. You will know it has cooked long enough when there is no longer water in the dish. Make sure to check it often, and do not overcook!
Once the water is absorbed, remove the dish from the microwave oven. Add 1/4 cup butter or margarine and mix together with the pasta. Next add the cheese sauce that was included in the box and 1/4 cup milk. Blend all of the ingredients together until the pasta is well coated with the cheese sauce and enjoy!
According to Wikipedia, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese was originally called Kraft Dinner. While in the United States it has changed its name to Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, it is still referred to as Kraft Dinner in Canada. In the United Kingdom they refer to it as Cheesey Pasta.
Kraft Macaroni and Cheese was first introduced in 1937 in the United States and Canada. As families looked for meatless entrees during World War II, the popularity of the dinner soared. Canada is now the world's largest per capita consumer of Kraft Dinner.

Post a CommentThanks for posting the directions. I find it incredible that Kraft would not publish the microwave directions so as to sell more of their other products.
I always make two boxes and add frozen vegetables and other ingredients to make it more savory.
Bless you for posting this. It had been awhile since I'd had my beloved blue box and I was unaware that they removed the microwave instructions. My guessed attempts were ok, but not just right. Thank you again.

My formula that hasn't failed me is 1 3/4 cup water cooked 11 minutes in a 2 qt. bowl, stirring every 3 minutes. At 3 minutes to go I put in the 4 tbsp butter to melt and let it finish. Take it out and put in the 1/4 cup milk and cheese. Heaven!
Worked perfectly-- tastes even better than from stove. It came out slightly al dente, just right! I thought I was delusional that there was a way to do this! =P Thanks!
I cooked 10 minutes and it was still not cooked all the way. My husband laughed at my version of al dente mac n cheese
For the first 4 or 5 minutes it can safely go without stirring...
The macaroni only starts sticking when it gets more dry
