Labor Day is celebrated for many reasons. The Union folks think it is their holiday. The Summer tourists venue's know it is the last hurrah before returning to some definition of normal living. My personal thoughts are it's the beginning of Tailgate Party season. I am one of those folks that believes the world is designed just for a party that involves good food. Some parties are simple and made for two others are feasts that involve hundreds of covered dishes. Here are a few easy recipe ideas for that special picnic when ever it is. Y'all might have a picnic tonight just because you have some new inspirations to work with. Let's roll up our sleeves, take off our rings. Wash our hands, and get cooking...

Blue Cheese Cole Slaw

Ingredients:

1 bag Dole Cole slaw mix

1 bag Dole broccoli slaw mix

1 softball sized onion fine diced

1 small jar salad cut olives drained

1 16oz bottle blue cheese salad dressing (your favorite brand)

2+ Tablespoons oil (your favorite kind)

2-3 Tablespoons garlic powder

2-3 Tablespoon horseradish (drained)

1 teaspoon Sea Salt

Directions:

Dump salad dressing into a small bowl. Pour oil into salad dressing bottle shake well and pour into bowl, add Garlic Powder, Sea Salt, and horseradish whip together and set aside. Toss remaining ingredients then add dressing mixture and toss again. Chill and toss again before serving.

Adult Deviled Eggs

Ingredients:

1 dozen hard boiled medium eggs

1 Tablespoon brown spicy mustard (Dijon if you must)

1 Tablespoon melted butter (butter is better)

2+ Tablespoon Mayonnaise (not salad dressing)

1 Tablespoon curry powder

1 teaspoon ground ginger

Directions:

Cut eggs in half (north to south) place yolks in zippy bag, arrange whites on a plate. Mash yolks in bag add other ingredients and mix well in bag. Cut one corner from bottom of bag and pipe mixture into eggs. Cover, Chill and serve with a smile

Faux Deviled Ham Salad

Ingredients:

2 pound good bologna grated not ground (y'all will love the texture)

1 dozen hard boiled eggs grated

1-2 Tablespoon Garlic powder

2 Tablespoons melted butter (butter is better)

2-3 grated carrots

1 small onion minced

ΒΌ cup sweet pickle relish

1 pound grated swiss cheese

2-3 Tablespoon yellow mustard

1+ cup salad dressing (Miracle Whip)

Directions:

Mix it, chill it, spread on your favorite bread or crackers. Try it open face on a split baguette

Notes:

These recipes are the best when served cold. I think that's why the cooler weather of Labor Day picnics or Tailgate parties is why I love this type picnic. Enjoy and share with friends...Mizpah. ;-}}>
