You can make things like pillowcases, sheets, even blankets yourself, if you know how. This allows you to provide your family with all they need while saving you a whole lot of money. If you have a sewing machine, fabric, and the basic sewing supplies you can easily make your own pillowcases. Adding lace trim is optional, but a beautiful extra touch.
Step 1:
Lay 1 yard of fabric pattern side up on a large work surface. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise so you are bringing both corners of each end of the fabric together. The folded fabric will be pattern side in. Lay the folded fabric down carefully, keeping it straight and even.
Step 2:
Use a meter stick to measure the length and width of the pillow you will be making the pillowcase for, for a custom fit. Measure, mark and cut the fabric to be 4 inches longer and 3 inches wider than your pillows actual measurements.
Step 3:
Fold the edges of the pillowcase over 1/4 inch on both sides, and on 1 end. Secure using common pins, inserting them every 2 to 3 inches to keep the fold in place.
Step 4:
Stitch each folded side using a sewing machine and matching colored thread. Stitch 2 times to create a long lasting and durable seam that will not come undone in the laundry. Turn the pillowcase right side out.
Step 5:
Add the lace trim around the open edge of the pillowcase by folding the fabric of the case under 1/4 inch like you did the other sides. Hold the lace in place on the folded edge of the fabric as you insert the pins. Secure the lace to the fold using the pins then stitch using the sewing machine. Stitch twice for durability. Enjoy the pillowcase!
Making your own pillowcases, sheets, even blankets is a simple, enjoyable way to give your family more for less. Thanks for reading and take care :)
