As I also happen to have lots of scrap material lying around, I thought I'd use some of it to make a basic cover.
It's really, really simple to make.
First, I cut a piece of black cloth to size. Next, I cut up squares of scrap material (in this example, maroon and red pieces) and sewed the individual pieces onto the black cloth using a basic tacking stitch.
If you wanted to be neater (which I wasn't too bothered about as I wanted it to have a "homemade" look!) you could tack the edges of each scrap of cloth so that the edges don't fray. And you could use thread the colour of the scraps so that it wouldn't be visible. (I only had white thread, so I just used that!)
Finally, I sewed the ends of the cloth to create a sort of sleeve, which could be pulled over the lamp.
Voila! Now the lamp gives out this wonderful glow because the bright light is being filtered through the black cloth!
