You can design your own pond and there is software on the market now that is for landscaping that you can use to even find the perfect spot for your new pond allowing you to design it before spending any money purchasing items.
When building a pond the main thing that you want to do is make it look natural. Make it look like it has always been there and isn't manmade. This isn't that hard to do with the right materials. You don't want your pond to be square you want to have a curvy shape so that you can decorate the outer edges of the pond with plants and rocks. If you get a plastic form for the pond you be able to have it shaped like a pond may be.
You can get pumps for your water garden, this will allow water to flow and with this you can then make a small water fall of rocks. You will want to use river rocks to have the water flow over them so when you are near the pond you will hear the water going over the rocks. Inside the pond you can add fish and plants.
Plants that you want to use would be water lily plants. But you will have to have your pond in some sunlight for these plants to survive. These are great to add to the pond, they look natural and are easy to maintain. Once you have the plants that will survive in the water the next step is to plant flowers and plants around the outer shape of the pond to make it look natural. You don't want to overdo it just a few plants around the outer will make it look natural. You will want to leave an area that you can walk directly up to the pond so you can see the fish if you have fish in the pond.
Water gardens and ponds are a great asset to a yard. These are easy to maintain and fun to design. They will even increase the value of your home.
