How to Landscape to Sell Your House

Landscaping: Commercial or Personal?

Most likely you will not be able to find a single company that accomplish both well. However, if you are really considering a landscape project, your primary step is to determine which of these two approaches you are going to choose.

First approach goes as follow: You put an ad on a house for sale, and the realtor suggests to dressing up a backyard space, making over a front entry and increasing a curb appeal to attract more buyers. On the other hand, if you are interested to give a representation of a successful company in a huge business complex then a facelift, trees and rolling lawns are envisioned to provide the right image.

What I represented here is two ends of spectrum in commercial landscape approach and they are both commercial.

Let's take for example the house for sale. That is the small end in the scale of a commercial approach. You throw annual flowers plus new grass sod and expect that the old sprinklers will cover.

The large end of the scale would be an enormous commercial compound.

A landscape architect draws several plans and submits it for approval to the board of directors. When the plan is approved, it is to bid out to many companies who expecting to get the money that go with the job.

Whether the approach is landscaping a house or contemplating a huge commercial compound, as you could see they were motivated by money and thus have one common denominator to both.

The other approach is personal and it is much more fun for everyone who involved.

The money in terms of investment value is motivated by aesthetics, beauty or however you prefer to call it.

If the owner decides to spend more time and live at this house for a while, socializing and entertain many people, then he needs to utilize as much space outdoor as possible in order to create the certain effect.

It is all in the design. An elegant well-made courtyard entertainment area, using inspired approaches is the key to provide an attractive look and that is the first impression that a visitor will get of your house. The outdoor part can be a home as much as the interior from the outside as they are walking in. But, the first and the most important thing is, how do you feel about it yourself because remember, a home is a reflection of your inner being.

So if a couple took a trip to Europe and spent their honeymoon on an island, and want to see cactus, palm trees and listen to the waterfall every day. They want a pond, stream, waterfall or the three lampposts as a reminder of that trip to Europe in the design, while at the same time they bring their home to life and enhance the beauty of the landscape - that's in the design.

Unless you own a large company headquarters or you are selling a house that needs a rolling lawn, I recommend the personal approach. If it done right you will enjoy it considerably plus you will probably end up getting the money back if you will ever decide to sell.

Now how do you know which company would be the right one for your perfect designed environment? Talk to their customers and find out about the easiest company to work with to prevent unexpected
surprises. Additionally, you can visit their recent few projects they did, as well as the old. The older the projects are the test of time will show how well the work was truly done. They recent ones will tell you if they are still on track.
