1. Consume 50-60 grams of protein per day
This is a generally easy change to incorporate into a daily routine. You can mix 10-20 grams in a home made protein shake or even a millk shake and drink it in the morning, noon and evening. Alternatively, you could also drink it right after a work out to immediately make your muscles start recovering more quickly.
2. Lift heavy weights at low volume and high intensity
This is the backbone of all good lean muscle literature. Lifting heavy weights will make your body adapt to greater amounts of physical stress. If you go out into the sun, you tan to protect yourself from UV rays. If you go out into the cold, your body will shiver to try and keep your body warm. If you lift heavy weights, your body will get bigger to better resist the pain from lifting. So to keep growing, keep lifting heavier weights! Of course, your muscle will only notice the heavy weights when you lift many times. Push your muscle and lift until you can't lift any more. Keep it to one set and your muscle will grow.
3. Keep a log book.
A less technical piece of advice, keeping a log book will allow you to track whether your workout's have been more or less intense. Keep everything in it, your meals, how much you've lifted and when you've lifted it, even feelings you encountered while lifting. Make it a bit more creative and turn it into a journal/diary as well. Who says men don't have feelings? A quick tip: an easy way to tell if a workout has been more and less intense than a previous one is by multiplying the mass of the weight by how many times you lifted it, eg. 20 lbs x 10 time = 200 lb is more intense than 30 lbs x 5 reps = 150 lbs, even though it might have felt harder for you.
How much does it mean to get lean muscle to you? These tips will help you gain lean muscle. It's time to start doing some work and start lifting instead of searching for the perfect work out. Everyone's body is different and a good program will adapt to the man. If it doesn't recommend the top three pieces of information, it's not a good work program. Take control of your skinny body and start building lean muscle now!
