IF IT HAPPENS TO CELEBRITIES... The first step in learning from Rihanna's domestic violence experience is that no one is immune. You should not feel in any way inferior because someone put his or her hands on you. I know the feeling -- it starts by you thinking, "What could I have possibly done to communicate that I would ever tolerate this?" Then you start thinking that since it DID happen, you deserve to be in that place. No. Realize that even rich, famous celebrities like Rihanna have insecurities and that's ok. You're a human, not a robot. Insecurities are challenges to overcome.
SCREAM. After you have accepted that domestic violence can happen to anyone, and you are not less of a person just because it happened to you, you must build your self esteem back up. Not so you can destroy the next man or woman who dares cross your path, but so you can treat them WELL. Get the anger out through physical exertion. Scream as much as you want. Do it in public. I've done it; it helps. (Right in the middle of a Starbucks! :) Join a gym and hit the bag. You will feel sad, then you'll want to beat things up. Go ahead and beat them up. Get a gun and go to a range. Whatever -- just let it out. Realize this is a physiological reaction. Your body is literally re-orienting the fluids in your system so that you will be better prepared for shocks in the future. You're becoming, like Rihanna, a stronger person.
HEAL. After you have screamed your fill (and it might take a while), you can begin the second phase of healing, which is coming back down to earth. You must return to the public. Go out with protective friends and let them protect you. Did you note how Rihanna got right back into the studio, and now she's got a hit with Jay-Z? Don't be alone. I mean, it's easier for Rihanna not to be alone, because she's a walking investment for a lot of people. But people have invested in you, too. Invested friendships, and time, and love. Do you think they want to see that go down the drain? Go make a hit song at the karaoke bar with your "labelmates." LOL.
