The first thing is make sure to read other people's work. Fiction or non-fiction, it doesn't matter. Take note of what you like and don't like about other people's work. While reading, also note the use of composition, grammar, and description words. By reading good writing as a daily exercise you can learn to write even better.
In order to become a good writer you also have to simply write a lot. Write about everything, from little events during the day, to your little fantasies. Take time everyday to write creatively about something. Don't worry about if someone else would like it at first. But if you think you have a good piece, save it, then look at composition, grammar and all of the other important things. Remember these are just creative exercises to get your brain flowing. If you get stuck with this exercise, try looking at a random picture on the web, and writing a story about that. Sometimes pictures can make excellent story starters.
If you get sick of writing stories about little things, try concentrating on certain aspects of writing instead. Maybe one day creatively choose an object and write about it in as much detail as you can. You could also just do random work association, or write a poem about something. Try to keep what your writing day to day creative, mixing things up.
Sometimes when writing daily things, you may feel it isn't creative at all, but you can make it be. To be creative you just need to write the daily things in new ways. If you can creatively write stories about the mundane you can keep your readers captivated.
Once you feel comfortable with your work, its time to get someone willing to constructively criticize your work. Try to be open and get a few people who are willing to be honest about your writing. Everyone's writing is unique and so not everyone will like it, but if it can't reach an audience it doesn't have a purpose. Therefore run your creative stories past a few people and consider what they have to say. Remember to make a good story it often takes rewriting things a couple of times. Sometimes your draft will just have to be written because of minor composition or grammar issues, other times plot lines or points may need to be revamped.
Creative writing is fun and easy. Just remember the two simple things are to read and write and keep going at it. That's how good creative writers are born.
