How to Use Leftover Halloween Candy for Christmas

Abby Willow

Stocking stuffers and Christmas treats- Halloween candy fits the bill, and if you have tons of those miniature goodies leftover, the best thing you can do for your waistline is to store that uneaten Halloween candy and drag it back out again when the Christmas tree is up. In fact, there are a ton of things you can do with Halloween candy to turn it into a Santa-worthy Christmas delight, saving you time and money when it comes to treating the kiddos around Christmas. Here are ways you can turn your leftover Halloween candy into a Christmas candyland!

The reality is, Halloween candy is easily great to eat for up to a year after the holiday is actually over, and you'll notice that Halloween candy is a super deal once all the goblins have finished knocking on your door. Rather than spend a mint toward Christmas for the exact same candy, stock up right after Halloween and get the candy that you would buy anyhow (or bag up your leftover Halloween candy stash) and get the goodies you need on the super cheap far before Santa comes down your chimney.

M&Ms and Skittles are perfect for sugar cookies made fresh and delicious for Christmas joy. Save those little treats to top cookies, or to use on gingerbread houses for Christmas decorating. In fact, any leftover Halloween candy can be used for gingerbread houses, from Tootsie rolls to Milky Ways. There is a plethora of gingerbread house materials in leftover Halloween candy.

Candy is the ultimate stocking stuffer, which means all that hodgepodge leftover Halloween candy is perfect for filling up those stockings (rather than your belly). Rather than spending money on candy to fill in stockings and candy bowls around Christmas, use the candy you already have from Halloween to get the job done. This way, you can spend your money on gifts rather than treats.

Suckers from Halloween make absolutely adorable Christmas ornaments, particularly those little colorful Dum-Dum suckers. Leave the wrapper on the suckers and hot glue a paper clip to the back of the sucker for an adorable Christmas ornament you can enjoy for years. A Dum-Dum themed Christmas tree is a cute and wonderful way to create a candyland type of Christmas theme. You can glue paper clips for hanging on the backs of Starbursts as well to add more color. Just leave the wrappers on.

If nothing else, save your Halloween chocolate for all your Christmas baking. A little bit of chocolate goes a long way, and there is no chocolate bar that a rolling pin can't crush into filling or topping. Snickers, Milky Way, Butterfinger...they all make great cake toppings or brownie fillers for the Christmas spirit. Rather than scarf down all that Halloween treat, save it for Christmas and see how much you can appreciate your Halloween ghoulish goodies into another holiday!

This year, we only bought one bag of candy (about a pound) for Halloween kids at our door. We used to freeze the leftovers-but don't want any leftovers anymore!
