Soups and Stews
Rice can be used as a "filler" for many soups and stews. One of my favorite ways to use rice is to add it to homemade chicken soup. To make your soup you need chicken broth, cooked chicken meat, sliced carrots, and leftover rice. Simply boil the carrots in the chicken broth until tender and then add your meat and rice. Cook until the soup has been heated through and serve. This meal can be created in less than 30 minutes, when using leftover cooked chicken, making it a great busy weeknight dinner idea.
Leftover rice can also be added to beef stew, vegetable soup, and used in soup and stew recipes which call for cooked rice.
Cool It
Leftover cold rice can be a great addition to hot foods helping to cool them down for children to eat. Leftover cold rice can be added to hot ramen noodle soup to cool it down or can be added to soups and stews after done cooking to serve to children without having to wait and let it cool.
Fried Rice
Fried rice is a delicious treat that I cook on occasion for my family. When making fried rice from leftover rice you help save yourself a step in its preparation. Fried rice can easily be whipped up using an electric wok in less than ten minutes when using leftover rice. One of my favorite recipes for fried rice includes diced spam, peas, onions, egg, soy sauce, sesame oil, and rice. Create your own version of fried rice or follow a recipe you've found online or in a cookbook.
Rice Pudding
You can use leftover rice to make a sweet treat. Rice pudding is a delicious dessert which uses leftover rice, spices, sugar, and some people even add in raisins. For a delicious Rice Pudding recipe visit this link.
Other Ideas for Leftover Rice
I have just a few more ideas for using leftover rice. Leftover rice can be used in these dishes as a filler:
Meatloaf
(Mix leftover rice into your meatloaf in place of crushed crackers or bread crumbs.)
Burritos
(Leftover rice can be placed inside of tortilla shells along with beans and cheese.)
Crab Cakes
(You can find a delicious recipe for Rice Crab Cakes by clicking here.)
Many times when you order Chinese Take Out or Delivery you will find yourself with boxes of steamed white rice. The recipe ideas above can be a great way of using leftovers from your boxes of steamed white rice, rather than letting it go to waste.
Leftover rice can be frozen to be used in recipes at a later date. To freeze the leftover rice you can place it into a freezer bag and freeze. Frozen rice can be heated by allowing it to steam in the microwave.
