I actually remember breaking down in class and shedding tears for my fallen friend. I came home from school and told my parents that he died. They turned on the news and we watched the story together. Through his death, I learned more about his life than I did when he was alive. I felt like I didn't even know him that well after he died. He had no family except for an aunt and he just started to turn his life around when he was killed in Iraq.
Chris, who I had known for three years before he was shipped off to Iraq, was shot in the leg and was sent home. I haven't seen him since he returned home but hopefully I will get to see him soon. I stayed in touch with him through Myspace until his injury. We have fallen out of touch since then but I will try to regain contact with him and ask him how he's doing. We need to get caught up.
Both of these men are heroes to their country but there is one question that has lingered in my mind since Jeremy's death: What did he die for? That question remains unanswered at this time because I honestly don't know what our troops are fighting for any more. I'm not so sure that anyone really knows any more.
I am proud of both of them for the sacrifices they have made but I still wonder what the purpose of the war in Iraq is. It seems almost pointless now. In my opinion, it's just another excuse for President Bush to boost his ego, as if he really needs that. Is he too blind to see that we are losing? I actually wrote him an e-mail after Jeremy's death and said I wouldn't be satisfied until he wrote back to me directly instead of having someone answer the e-mail for him. I never did get a response from the President himself.

Post a CommentA Very touching story. I feel very sorry for your friend, it is hurting to know this, how a very young person with much promising future died in a senseless war. I believe American troops must pull out from Iraq. hanks for sharing this story.
My friend Jamie was in the war in Iraq, too. He was in Baghdad when they pulled down Saddam's statue. Ironically, he was killed here in the states in a car accident a little over a month ago. But he told me he was fighting for honor. I don't know if that helps you, but he was there and he believed what the troops were doing was right. He told me how the children and women thanked them for coming.
