This does not mean that the Democrats are Angels who came down from heaven. On the contrary, the Democrats are showing day after day how weak and unresponsive they are from the President to the Senate. However, I would vote for a Democrat over a Republican any day because I have yet to see a good Republican since the late President Eisenhower. In short words, the Democrats are the lesser of two evils and again this is the people's fault.
Why is it the people's fault? It is their fault for three reasons. They are ignorant, naïve and politically inactive. They are ignorant because they do not like to read the newspapers, books, watch anything that has to do with what is going on in the country or the world. They just want to watch their reality television, eat, drink their beers and wait for the weekend to come to do that all over again. Anything of substance is immediately brushed off to the side. And then they complain when all their jobs are shipped overseas and they lose their house.
They are naïve because they believe anything that is said to them. They hear that the President is a Muslim and they believe it. They hear that healthcare is bad and they believe it. They hear that Republicans will balance the budget, and they believe it. I mean the examples can go on for years. Just look at the biggest news media in the US. FOX News that claims to be fair and balanced yet they are far from that by a million light years.
Finally, Americans are not politically active. Just look at the voter turnout in 2006: 37.1%, 2004: 56.8%, 2002: 37%, 2000: 51.3%. Compare that to Germany for example, in 2005 it was 77.65 %, in 2002 it was 79% and in 1998 it was 82%. Italy had an 80.5% voter turnout in 2008 while the Netherlands had also an 80% voter turnout. They do not care for politics and they do not know what is going or the political agendas and therefore they lose all their rights slowly. As for the Tea Party movement, one can not really count that as political activism because it is highly misguided and paid for by corporations with secret agendas. To illustrate my point, The Tea Party started in 2009 opposing high taxes and high spending yet this movement did not exist when Taxes were as high as 91% under President Eisenhower (A Republican) or when former President George Bush took a surplus and turned it into a deficit.
And if you believe that I am wrong just look at what is happening in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, New Jersey, Florida and Texas. On March 9, 2011 the Wisconsin Republican- led Senate passed Gov. Scott Walker's restrictions on collective bargaining after more than 2 weeks of demonstrations by the people of Wisconsin thereby ignoring the wishes of the Wisconsin people and crushing Democracy, as we know it. My fellow readers, we are not living in a Democracy anymore. The Republicans are taking us back to the Middle Ages where Lords (or the rich) are in charge of everything and the peasants (which what the Middle Class is becoming) must work to give homage to their lord!!
