How to Limit Non-Customer ATM Fees

How to Limit Your ATM Expenses

It was recently announced that many consumers could start to expect to see an increase in non-customer ATM fees. This is due in part to the success that Bank of America had with raising theirs. Although the financial institutions in or around your area may have somewhat reasonable fees, you may want to prepare for those fees to increase, just in case. So what does this mean for you? It means that you should take steps to reduce the amount of ATM fees you rack up. For information on how you can do so, please continue reading on.

One of the easiest ways that you can reduce your ATM transaction fees is by taking a close look at who you do your banking with. Is your bank conveniently located to your home, office, or other areas that you regularly find yourself traveling to? Alto often, many of us choose to open up a bank account and stay with that particular institution, despite career changes or even moves. To reduce the amount of money spent on non-customer ATM fees, you will want to ensure that your bank has branch offices, with ATMs, that are convenient for you. This is the easiest way to avoid visiting an ATM which you are not affiliated with, thus reducing the number of ATM transaction fees you accumulate overtime.

Researching ATM fees in or around your area is another great way to prevent yourself from spending too much money. If you are out and about and realize that you need to have cash, knowing which banks in or around your area have the lowest non-customer ATM fees can help you save money. You can easily determine ATM transaction fees by contacting local banks, with a simple telephone call. You may also be able to find the same information online. With the possibility of an increase, however, you will want to regularly make sure that your information is updated and accurate.

Another one of the many ways that you can go about reducing non-customer ATM fees is by requesting cash back. This is most ideal if you have shopping that you need to do, preferably at a retailer that does allow you to receive cash back when using your debit card. Many banks do not have cash bank fees. For those that do, you will almost always find the transaction fee to be less than what you would pay at a non-customer ATM. Although this approach cannot always be taken, it is ideal to do in certain circumstances, like when you may be grocery shopping and need to pickup dinner at a cash only restaurant on the way home.

The above mentioned approaches are just a few of the many steps that you can take to prevent yourself from paying high non-customer ATM transaction fees. In most cases, these fees can be avoided by having a relatively small amount of cash on you at all times.

Good tips. I never use the ATM, I write checks or pay cash for everything.
