The first things to look at are the Social Media groups that you can join. Thousands of people network through MySpace, FaceBook and Twitter each day. Just by posting your link on these sites is giving your website exposure to a countless number of individuals. You can also do this by joining various groups at Yahoo and Google. You should only join groups that are related to your website. By posting your link to off-topic related websites may be considered to be SPAM.
Avoid link stuffing. This is where you constantly post your link in one group. It is annoying when an individual goes to a discussion forum and sees that the latest twenty postings are links to your website. An individual will make a decision to go to your website after the first posting. By constantly posting, the individual may be annoyed and block you and even report you for SPAM.
Honesty is the key to any website. For example, if you have a website that sells a product and you write a review about it, be honest about it. You want to build trust with your potential customers. Therefore, do not attempt to mislead anybody by giving false promises.
An indirect approach to link building is commenting of other individual's blogs and forums. When you leave a comment that is helpful to individuals, they in turn will comment on your website. Avoid SPAM, however, by leaving something of value in your comments. If you leave a comment such as "Great Website" or just a link back to your website, this would be considered SPAM.
There are many individuals that are willing to put your link on their websites as long as you do the same for them. However, having too many links may turn the traffic away. If you have more than five links, rotate them on a regular basis. Since websites need to be updated to stay at the top of the Search Engine Results Page, this is an excellent way to keep your website updated. Do not feel that it is your obligation to post every link that comes your way on your website. It is best to choose only the links that relate to your product or service.
