How to Live More Independently

Rik Rodriguez
Seems more today than ever I here people talking about becoming more independent. To become less dependent on the grocery store and less dependent on society to function normally is not an easy task. Most Americans would be lost if they couldn't buy food from the store. While many of us grew up actually growing food, bartering and maybe hunting or fishing. If there ever is a crisis in the USA where people can not get food I believe many would starve. We cannot really depend on the Government to come to our rescue as was expected in many of the national disasters. The local state and federal governments are unreliable and seem to be set up mostly to take from society rather than give help when it is really needed.

A few simple things can help you through times where you may not be able to buy food from the store as you have been for years. Stock up on the foods that could be made easily. Non perishables that can be stored easily are a good place to start. Try to also have the way to cook your food. A little pre-planing goes a long ways. Its not essential to have weeks of food stored to survive a crisis but I sure sleep better at night knowing that if I am unable for some reason to buy food, I have ample supply for a while.

It only makes sense to be more prepared than you have been in the past. If you have a place to grow a garden, now would be a great time to start becoming more independent. Producing your own food can be very satisfying. Certainly our grandfathers and grandmothers would be proud of us if they knew that we actually could grow our own food.

It seems everywhere you look in the USA there is disaster, from foreclosures, hurricanes and floods. To rising gas and food prices. The American lifestyle is no more, its survival of the fittest. Most Americans will be left in the dust because they are not prepared for what may come. For the ones who think the government will pull them out of the dirt they are sadly mistaken.

Everywhere I look around the USA, I see people that once had a good chance to progress in life and enjoy the fruits of their hard earned incomes. It is getting harder to find people who say they have enough money. It is even getting harder to find people who say they are happy with their lifestyle in the USA.

Many of us are not old enough to remember the great depression. My grandmother spoke of it. They had their own garden and were very resourceful. My grandfather had two jobs and in his spare time he worked the garden. For some reason they were never over weight or under nourished. They were even happy with their lives. Now would be a good time to decide to be happy with your own life. Get prepared and you will have a better life than most.
