How to Live Within Your Means

In this day and age it is very easy to start a lifestyle that is not within your means. It seems like everyone is will to offer you money for a car, a home, and junk to fill both of them. Most people agree that the people in their 20's or 30's will probably experience a significant problem when they retire due to the social security problems. These same people are living extravagantly beyond their means.

In a debt based society that is chock full of marketing it is very easy to get lost in a sea of debt. This process happens slowly. The people that end up owing banks thousands don't all buy luxury sports cars (but some do); most of them just buy a few things every month that aren't in their budget. Some of them purchase more home than they can afford. But they all have one thing in common, they love the feeling that they get when they purchase something new.

When you look at all of the different kinds of ways that people can waste money, then you would be amazed. A lot of the new things that they purchase will be used once, and then set on a shelf to collect dust somewhere. This is a significant waist of money that need not be realized. Other times people buy things to replace things they have when they do not need to. How many people actually utilize a 4.5 GHz processor? Most of the people that purchase such pricey PC's do nothing more than surf the internet and check their email daily, other people overdue it with monthly fee's. Monthly fees slowly drive people into debt over time by reducing their overall spending power. Despite the copious amount of ways to get into debt, climbing out is often quite difficult.

In order to get out of debt you need to significantly reduce your spending. At this point it is probably a good idea to note that it is far easier to stay out of debt than get out of debt. Set aside most of your luxury expenses until you can pay your debt off in a timeline manor. Call your credit card company and ask for lower rates, more often than not, they will give them to you. The most important step of this phase is to not charge anything else! Charging new expenses drives you even further into debt.

By not succumbing to the marketing powers that surround us and the lures that debt tempts us with you will be able to live a future far better than the people living debt driven lifestyles.
