How to Locate Hidden Files on Your IPod or IPhone

Jennifer Habersham
For whatever the reason you may find that you need to get information off of your iPod and onto your computer (or someone else's). Unfortunately, while most aspects of the iPod are very user-friendly, transferring music or pictures from the iPod is not. Thankfully, accessing your iPod's files in Windows is quite simple. Once you have located the files on your iPod, be prepared for your folders to have different names than the ones you gave them. Specifically they will have a name that consists of letters or numbers that seem to have no rhyme or reason.

Step 1
Connect your iPod to your computer using the USB cord that came with your iPod. iTunes may automatically start a few minutes after you connect your iPod. Simply exit out of iTunes once you have the opportunity.

Step 2

Left-click on "Computer". You can usually find an icon for "Computer" on your desktop or by typing "my computer" in your computer's search bar.

Step 3

Locate your removable devices and click on the icon to open your iPod.

Step 4

Click on "Organize" (top right hand corner of the screen) and then click on "Folder and Search Options". This will open a pop-up menu with customizable options.

Step 5
Click on the "View" tab and then scroll down to a folder labeled "Hidden Files and Folders". You should see a blue circle next to "Do not show hidden files and folders".

Step 6

Click on the empty circle labeled "Show hidden files and folders". Click "Apply" once you are done. You will see a series of folders that you can click through and change as needed.
