How to Locate People: There Are Certain Locators You Can Use to Find People

Debt Collectors Use Certain Strategies to Find People

Melvin Richardson
When people disappear, without paying their debts, there are certain tools debt collectors use to find them. First they will try all the traditional methods of locating someone such as sending mail to the last known address and hope the person submitted a change of address form with their post office. This process allows the creditor to receive updated information with the new address, but only if the change request was submitted.

Sometimes calling information to get a new phone will be quite helpful. If you get the new number you can get all of the updated information, such as an address, from that person. All too often the more common ways to find people don't work. Creditors and debt collectors will use other methods such as the internet. Many people have profiles on Facebook, Myspace and linkedIn. A search on Google may turn up some information for someone you are looking for.

One way to locate people is with yellow pages. This is a website that allows you to key in an individual first and last name as well as their zip code in the designated areas and then hit the search button. All addresses for this person will be retrieved for you to view, if they are on file. You can also enter the phone number of the person and their name and address will appear. If you only have an address it can be entered and the person's name and phone number will appear. This same process can be completed with another website which is the white pages. Both sites allow you to work in reverse to find someone.

There are many more sites that you can use to locate someone such as www.zabasearch.com. Simply enter the person's first and last name and hit the enter button. If the search turns up a thousand entries, for the person, you can narrow the search by entering their date of birth and the state they live in. The number of entries you receive can still be in the hundreds, depending on how common the name is. Scroll through the list to see if any of the names look familiar. The middle initial will appear as well, to help you further identify an individual.

Of course there are other ways to locate individuals such as talking to neighbors, friends, and the last known employer, just to name a few. Some of these are not going to yield the results you want because many people are reluctant to release someone else's information, especially if they don't know who you are or why you want the information. Most debt collectors are skilled when it comes to retrieving this information from others. They have to be careful not to disclose the nature of their call to someone who has nothing to do with matter.
