A trunk jewelry show highlights the creations of a designer. After the event, the wares are paced away in totes or whatever. This is a great idea for jeweler makers who do not wish to have a solid location, and sell primarily to select groups. A trunk show is perfect for the jewelry designer who has sold on eBay, esty and has a following of fans.
For consumers the trunk jewelry shows are typically found in small bistros or gift shops in the artistic districts in LA, Atlanta, Chicago and of course New York City. Locating these can be accomplished by watching the newspaper, watching the designer on different web sites, or going to the independently owned shops. Some of the shops will list the event on their calendars or hand out a flier with the information on it to consumers.
Different types of web sites will often highlight a specific designer as well, if the particular style of jewelry goes well with the other items in the store. The Kazuri West website, which is an authorized dealer of handcrafted beads from Kenya, has a page which list different locations around the United States where on can purchase the designs.
On the Contemporary Jewelry Design Group website, consumers can see designs by their favorite artists as well as check to see if that designer will be coming to a city near them. At these trunk jewelry shows, consumers have the chance to meet the designers and see the jewelry first hand.
Now if you design jewelry and are looking for a place to sell your creations, you can visit local consignment shops, jewelry stores, and gift shops. Show your designs off and ask if you can set up a table there. Craft shows are a great place to hold a trunk jewelry show. Many web sites will give you good ideas on how to host your very own event in your local area.
If you enjoy the work of a certain designer, you could follow them on twitter or Facebook to keep in touch with them and learn when they will have an event. Most of the jewelry designers have an internet presence so just google their name, and go exploring.
