Making a lollipop plant is very easy as well as a lot of fun. This is also a great craft for the little ones to help with. The only problem is keeping them from eating up the lollipops before their lollipop plant is finished! You can use any kind of lollipops you like: dum dums, tootsie pops, blow pops any lollipops on a stick. You can create a lollipop plant just for fun or make them for the holidays. You might even want to consider making a lollipop plant for gift giving.

Materials

Small terra cotta flower pots
assorted acrylic paints
water base glaze
Styrofoam
glue
Spanish moss
lollipops

Directions

Clean and dry the terra cotta pot and let it dry completely. Next paint the pot with acrylic paint, in any color you choose. Let the pot dry thoroughly. Next you need to decide what type of designs you would like to paint on the pot. Be as creative as you like. Some designs you might like to try are: colorful stripes or circles, flowers, butterflies, stars etc. If you are decorating your lollipop plant for a specific holiday, here are some suggestions. Valentines day you can add hearts or words of love. For Christmas, snowflakes, snowmen and glittered stars. Acorns and leaves are great for Thanksgiving. On Halloween, ghosts and pumpkins. Well you get the idea. You can either paint the designs onto the pot, free hand or you can use stencils. Which ever you prefer.

After you have finished painting the designs onto the pot let it dry completely. Now you will need to apply a coat of the water base glaze, according to the containers instructions. This is to help protect and preserve the paint and add a shine to the pot. Let the pot dry completely once again.

Now that the pot has dried, place a piece of the Styrofoam into the pot, large enough to fill the pot 3/4 of the way up. Cover the Styrofoam with a layer of glue than insert the lollipops into the Styrofoam. Cover the Styrofoam completely with the Spanish moss. If you would like to add a ribbon to your lollipop plant, just tie a satin ribbon around the top rim of the pot and tie it into a pretty bow. If you are considering giving the lollipop plant as a gift, just tie a small gift card to the ribbon.

Children as well as adults like yummy lollipops, making the lollipop plant a great homemade gift idea for everyone!
