How Long Does Cocaine Stay in Your System?

Jim Enterline
Often it has been said that cocaine tests out of the system in about two or three days, yet some still fail a test. The factor being which test is performed and what is actually tested for. Some just test for the cocaine and some test for the presence of any metabolite of cocaine, which is usually benzoylecgonie. The body produces benzoylecgonie when cocaine is used and it can remain in the system for up to a month. This byproduct if tested for, considering the length of time that it remains in the body, is often the major cause of a drug test failure.

Many factors determine the dilemma of, how long does cocaine stay in your system:

The method in which you take cocaine
How often you use
Amount you consume
Age
Weight
Sex
Amount of body fat
Other medications you take
Your general health
Your rate of metabolism

As you can see, there are many determining factors to how long cocaine can remain in your system. Habitual users can often see traces of cocaine in their urine for up to as many as 12 weeks. And cocaine can show up in a hair test for several months, and some researchers say even for years. Your system may process it through slower than your friend who just passed a test with flying colors and yet you failed.

Those of us who have gotten off cocaine will be quick to say, don't even do it. But if you are not to that point of determination yet and continue to use, then take a good test on your own and see what the outcome is. You can often determine your approximate rate of regeneration this way.

One point to remember is that some cocaine tests now test for diluted urine and will fail you if it can determine that you have consumed liquid to flush the system. If you are going to be tested with a hair drug test, then the detection of cocaine is very likely to happen. Hair drug tests are very sensitive in detecting cocaine consumed even months back.

Not passing a drug test can often be fatal to your career and your relationships with family and friends. When you get to the point of determination to get free of the cocaine, get help.
