Mike Burnside
It has been a question asked throughout the ages. How long has that Halloween candy been hanging around our house and is it any good? The real answer is that because Halloween candy manufacturers make their treats with generous amounts of sugar, the shelf life can be years. However, after time Halloween candy will begin to lose its flavor and unique colors and therefore no longer fun to eat. We have collected a list of the most popular Halloween candies and when it is best to toss them out.

Halloween Chocolate Candies

Chocolate candy is one of the most popular Halloween treats given out. In fact, more than ninety million pounds of chocolate is sold during the Halloween season. That is more than double the amount sold for Valentine's Day. Halloween chocolate whether it is milk or dark can last for up to one year. To maintain any freshness, make sure to wrap it in foil and store it in a dry and cool spot.

Halloween Jellied Candies
The Halloween jellied candies is also a very popular treat. Many homes have them unwrapped and in a candy dish. In that condition, unwrapped jellied candies will last from six to nine months. Jellied candies wrapped as Halloween treats will was up to one year.

Halloween Hard Candies
Hard candies given out as Halloween treats such as the famous Jolly Rancher candies are very popular. However, they won't last forever and after about a year of storage at room temperature, you will want to toss them.

Halloween Candy Corn Candies
Nothing screams Halloween like the traditional candy corn candies. Those familiar yellow, orange, and white, soft, waxy like candies have been a staple for Halloween for years. Unopened packages of candy corn should last up to nine months. However, opened packages probably will only stay fresh for three months. The best storage for candy corn is to put them in an airtight container and store them in a dry, cool place.
