How Long? Rhyming Yet, Lest I Forget

(Where Have I Been, when My Beloved Has Called Me by Name?)

Linda Ann Nickerson

"My Beloved is mine and I am His."
(Song of Songs 2:16a)

"Come and sit with me awhile,"
My Beloved said.
"I have missed your sweetest smile;
It seems that it has fled."

He'd waited in our private spot;
I hadn't even seen.
"How long had He been there? I thought,
"And where else have I been?"

His longing brought me to my knees,
And I began to pray.
"Forgive me, Lord, I've missed you. Please!"
My sorrows flew away.

There, in His company, I knew
His love dashed my despair.
Our time together, overdue,
Brought joy beyond compare.

How had I passed Him by before,
Not noticing His plea,
When fellowship and love secure
Awaited there for me?

    Touched my heart especially. I have been struggling with just taking time to pray. Knowing that I desperately need to but for some reason resisting.
