Do you want to look gorgeous for your Facebook photos? I think most of us do. After all, it's like a virtual high school reunion, a family scrapbook, and a resume all rolled into one. It's no wonder we want to look our best! So here's a few tips and tricks to get a great Facebook photo without depending on Photoshop to look fabulous.
Dress to look your best. If you know you're going to be having your picture taken, wear the clothes that flatter you the best. Don't wear the skinny jeans that give you muffin top or the shirt that just doesn't look right on you. Instead, choose clothes that are the right size: they should skim the body, but not be too tight. Monochromatic colors (all black, or all shades of blue, etc) are the most slimming. If you're wearing a dress, choose a nude heel to elongate your legs. V-necks also make you taller and thinner, and boat necks help balance out slender shoulders. Choose the look that makes you look great and feel confident.
Wear the right makeup. Your makeup says a lot about you. Wear a foundation that covers your skin but isn't too heavy. A light dusting of powder will help prevent shine from the flash. Make sure you conceal any blemishes, and highlight any dark spots, such as around your nose and in the inside corner of your eyes. If your eyes are deep set, don't wear dark eye shadow or you'll look like you have two black eyes. Instead, choose a soft, neutral eye and use an accent color that complements the shade of your eyes. Draw a very thin line of eyeliner on the top eyelid, and wear two coats of mascara. If you need to, curl your lashes before applying the mascara.
Don't use your camera phone, webcam, or photobooth. These pictures usually come out looking slightly awkward at best. At worst, they may actually change the shape of your face, making you look like you have a giant nose, bulbous eyes, or a funny shaped head. Instead, have a friend take your picture with the best camera you can find.
Don't post a picture with alcohol, cigarettes, or anything questionable. You never know who will see your Facebook pictures, especially if they're not private. Soon, anything you post on Facebook will be searchable by Google, so don't post anything you don't want your kids, Grandma, or potential employer to see.
Give a great pose. Never stand straight in front of the camera. Hold your head high, put your shoulders back, and place one foot slightly in front of the other. Turn your body so that one shoulder is pointed slightly away from the camera, making you look slimmer and more beautiful. Keep your head high, to prevent that double chin. Have your friend take your picture from slightly above you, as if they were just a little bit taller. This is the most flattering angle and pose.
Top it off with a great smile. The best pictures of you are the ones with a genuine, happy smile. And the best way to show off your success in life, your love for your family, and your excitement for that new job is too look genuinely happy. So think of something really great, smile big, and know that you'll look terrific when you upload that brand new Facebook photo.
