How to Look Good at Any Age: from Skin Care to Wardrobe Picks

Samantha Beck
Pesky breakouts in your twenties. Loss of elasticity in your skin in your forties. How to dress gracefully and flattering in your sixties and seventies. Any age has its issues. Whether you're in your youthful twenties or in your golden sixties, you can look great at any age.

When you're in your twenties, you're dealing with a lot of changes. And with changes typically comes stress which causes breakouts. Combating acne is all about having clean skin. Absolutely no going to bed without washing your makeup off, no matter how tired you are. Makeup can trap oil inside your pores, causing breakouts. Thoroughly cleanse your face, then follow up by using a non alcohol-based toner. In the morning, use a light moisturizer that also contains sunscreen (at least SPF 15).

Also, in your twenties, you're still transitioning into adulthood. Your wardrobe should reflect that. Mix fun, bright colors with serious pieces like a chic blazer, silver jewelry and sophisticated shoes like pumps or sling backs.

Your thirties bring new changes in your skin. Fine lines often pop up in this stage of your life, so it's extra important to load up on vitamin C and peptide, a collagen booster, both of which can keep your skin firm and wrinkles in check.

You're still a hot number in your thirties, so your wardrobe should tastefully mirror that. Try constructing your outfits around a shimmery color, then adding neutral colors that will complement it. Shimmery colors in gold or light green will pump up your attire without looking like you're trying too hard.

In your forties, wrinkles are becoming a reality. Your body's collagen production is sluggish which can lead to deeper creases and larger pore appearance. At this point, you should choose skin care products with retinol in them. Also, wash your face with a non-foaming cleanser which is less likely to dry out your delicate skin.

Your wardrobe should be packed with feminine garments like flowing skirts and feminine accessories like chandelier earrings and sandals with crystal details. Pair your skirt with a fitted jacket for a work-appropriate spin.

As you get older, your skin is increasingly drying out. So in your fifties, it's all about keeping your skin moisturized and elastic. Your moisturizer should have hyaluronic acid as a key ingredient. It will help your skin be firmer and look plumper. Deep lines are another issue you'll have to deal with. Use fillers like Restylane.

Your ensembles should contain very classic pieces and colors. Black and white and jackets and blouses are key colors and pieces that should be in closet. Nothing is more flattering than a cream-colored suit with black trim and gold accessories like golden flat sandals or gold jewelry.

In your sixties and seventies, your skin is becoming tighter and itchier. Use a rich cream moisturizer to ease irritation. To wash your face, use only a mild cleanser. To boost the collagen in your skin, use products containing retinold. You should dress in rich neutrals and classic navy and, of course, black and white. Wearing a fitted blazer over a low-key printed skirt, then adding a bold piece of jewelry will flatter anyone, showing everybody else that age is just a number.
