How to Look like Audrey Hepburn: A Frugal Make-Up Guide

Amanda Abella
Though we may never have Audrey Hepburn's eyes of bone structure, one thing remains certain: we can always learn from the phenomenal make-up artists of Old Hollywood. Even after her death, Audrey Hepburn is still seen as a fashion icon today by Hollywood. Don't worry, you won't have to go buy a ton of new make-up products because you probably already have what you need for Hepburn's timeless look.

How to begin: Naturally, every woman knows that you begin applying make-up by "priming the canvas." That is to say, apply the a base and concealer to cover up any imperfections. Make sure that you use the lightest tone possible for your skin for the airy Hepburn feel. You may also use very loose powder. After you have done that you are ready to begin the classic Audrey Hepburn look.

Eyebrows: The eyebrows are probably the trickiest part of Hepburn's look. So tricky that even Hepburn's make-up artists had to occasionally enhance the actress' eyebrows. Hepburn's eyebrows were relatively thick, straight with hardly any arch. Instead of spending a lot of money on brow enhancing make up, try your local drug store as they will probably have suitable alternatives.

Eyelashes: While Hepburn had naturally dark, long lashes, again sometimes her make-up artists felt the need to enhance them. They did so by using individual lashes to supplement her own. Remember, when applying fake eyelashes you want to avoid looking obvious.

Eyeliner: Even if you do not have Hepburn's perfectly almond shaped eyes, you can still easily attain the look. Use dark brown liquid eyeliner to line the top of the lid with a thin line. Once you reach the outside corner of your eyelid widen slightly and angle upwards. This part may take some practice but once you get the hang of it it's rather easy. Next, use a pencil liner and smudge it gently under the bottom lashes. For a more dramatic night time look you can start all the way from the inside corner of the eye. During the day, give the illusion of bigger eyes by lightly smudging the liner only halfway from the outside corner.

Eyeshadow: Hepburn managed to always have a dramatic look without using obnoxious make-up. For a day time look just use light pinks and mauves. Most women already have these implemented in their daily make-up routine. If not, I recently discovered that CoverGirl has a good selection of mauves and pinks. For a night time look deepen the shadoow color with a dark brown on the lid. Make sure not to go overboard as Hepburn was always one for subtly.

Blush: For Hepburn's classic rosy cheeks all you need is to apply blush on the apple of the cheek and subtly apply upwards.

Lips: I firmly believe that every woman should own a tube of red lipstick and point to Audrey Hepburn as proof. The actress loved enhancing her natural beauty without being overpowering. To attain the Audrey Hepburn look stick to reds with little to no gloss. Furthermore avoid pearlescent and shimmery colors.

Final touch: To open up the eyes further make sure to use a curling mascara. Additionally use a translucent powder to set all the makeup.

The end result: you will look like a classic Hollywood starlet. The best part about that Audrey Hepburn's look will never go out of style and can be worn with just about anything. While this may take some practice, before you know it you will look like you belong in Breakfast at Tiffany's.
