How to Look Polished on Your Beach Vacation

Lynn Glessner
On a beach vacation, it may not be possible or practical to wear much makeup or style your hair. But you still want to look polished and attractive. Especially since so many family pictures are taken on vacation. Here are a few tips to keep you looking your best on the beach.

1. Have your eyebrows waxed
Even if you do not normally have your eyebrows waxed, this is key to a polished look. The less make-up you will wear, the more important this is. If you are concerned, tell the esthetician that you want a very natural look, just "cleaned up". She will remove the fuzzy hair you didn't even know was there, and it will make a world of difference.

2. Bring facial wipes and clean your face often
You will be applying sunscreen often (right?) and the last thing you need is to clog up your pores and cause break-outs, which will be all the more obvious without make-up. At least once during the day, wipe off your face and then reapply your sunscreen. And do not go to bed without washing your face, even if you occasionally do that at home.

3. Go ahead and bring a little make-up
You won't be spending all your time sunbathing, even if you would like to. Bring a tinted moisturizer for your skin, and a bronzing powder. No matter how wonderful your skin is, the fluorescent lights at night-time will make you need a little something. Bring a small stick or liquid cover-up. It doesn't take up much room. Just in case your plans to keep your skin clear fail, you will be glad you have it.

4. Liquid eyeliner
I know it sounds crazy, but you don't have to use it to create the cat-eye like Angelina Jolie. Unless you want to. The wonder of liquid eye-liner is that it will add a little definition to your eyes and stay put all day long. Like mascara only better. Buy a shade similar to the mascara that you normally wear. A copper-y brown does great things for blue eyes. I have found that the cheap Wet N Wild liquid eyeliner works just fine. At that price, buy more than one and experiment before your trip. Line the top of your eye as closely as you can to your lashes. Then step back and look - you will be amazed at the difference.

5. Sunglasses
Ever wonder why stars wear sunglasses so often? They don't want to be caught without their make-up "done". Hide behind sunglasses and a large hat, and you will look classy. Note: if the total amount of fabric in your swimming suit is less than the volume of your hat, this will not help.

6. Casual Ponytail
Make sure your hair color has been done recently, so you won't have bad roots, and practice the casual pony-tail.
