How to Look Slimmer by Accessorizing

C. Phillips
If it's just one of those days that you wake up feeling fat, than don't just indulge in self-inflicted misery-do something. Instead of worrying about the fit of your pants or shirts, why not accessorize for a slimming effect? Here's how.

Scarves

No matter what body type you are, you'll look great-and slimmer-with the addition of a scarf. If you are tall, opt for a long skinny scarf that will draw attention to your height. If you are short, you can also benefit from a skinny scarf, but one that falls no farther than to your hips. If you are big-busted, than slim your chest area with a wide, chunky scarf that pulls attention to itself, not your chest. Scarves are a winter and summer accessory that you can use year-round. Just by choosing the right color you can look thinner. And you don't have to stick with black, either. Try brightly colored scarves in combination with neutral color outfits. It brings a pop of color to your fashion, and visually eliminates part of you torso, making thick-waisted or wide individuals look smaller. Don't believe it? Give it a try, you'll have to see it to believe it.

So don't shy away from the scarf clearance rack-you can always improve an outfit with a well-styled scarf. You can even make your own if you are so artistically inclined.

While sashes aren't exactly scarves, they can be both a waist tie and a neck adornment. So what's the draw? Use a cloth belt to emphasize hips if you don't have any, so that your torso looks thinner. If your waist is the slimmest point of your torso, than cinch up the cloth belt at this point to draw more attention to the waist area.

Belts-corset belt

Corsets are in again; but I'm not talking about the full corset, just a belt. You can find corset belts that will actually function like a waist cincher, or you can use it to visually slim. Try placing the corset belt just under your bust, to visually thin down your ribcage or create a more defined waist by cinching it at your waist. Just make sure that the corset belt you purchase is meant to pull you in, or you might experience an unpleasant breakage of the laces.

Bags

The size of your bag can make a big difference. If you are into messenger bags, than make sure the bag is at least the width of your backside; using a smaller bag will draw attention to the size of your rear end. The same goes for long strapped purses. You need to find one that will be small enough to hold what you need without hurting your shoulders, but big enough to cover at least half of the width of your waist. The way you carry your bag will also make you look slimmer. If you are wide, than don't carry a purse with it slung across your body, as this will make you look wider. If you want to look slim, either hold your bag to your side or partly in front of you with the arm that carries the strap.

Other accessories that can make you appear thinner are small delicate shawls slung around the hips, longer length gloves (that create a slimming effect on your arms and hands, and knee-high boots that will give your legs a thinner appearance especially in patent leather black. So, don't mope around on those 'feeling fat' day, just accessorize!
