How to Lose a Stalker

If someone is officially stalking you, then you must take appropriate action. Many people can swing to extreme ends of the spectrum, trying to deal with the stalker. Make sure that your behavior is as spotless as possible, in order to not throw any doubt on your position as the victim.

Tell everyone all of the details. This is where pride tends to rear its head and cause a lapse of information. You need to tell several people, including a neighbor, a friend and a family member, about the stalking and any information you can supply as to the reason for the stalking. Do not lie to them, because the truth may come out even from the stalker's mouth, and you do not want to be the proud one who cried wolf. At this point, your life could be in danger, and you must tell all or risk something much worse.

File a police report. If this seems unnecessary, think about what may happen if your stalker should try to harm you. They may not leave any evidence as to their identity. In this manner, police have a likely suspect and can delve more deeply into the truth. Also, you will be covered in case nobody else is around to help you. Give the police as many details as possible, including a physical description, full name, times, locations, and any possible evidence to back up your story.

Stay safe. Do not be a victim, but gather friends around on a daily basis, practice your firearm, have your cell phone always on your person, keep your blinds and curtains drawn so that they cannot see in your home, and stay in public areas as much as possible. Do your errands and shopping during the day and keep the doors locked and dead-bolted at night. Every time you arrive home, look into all of your closets, cupboards and under all of your beds to make sure that no one is hiding in your house.

Gather evidence. Keep phone records, a Polaroid camera and witnesses around to make sure that you have plenty of evidence to present to the police for their investigation. Do not delete public networking postings, emails or instant messages. Print off anything that is relevant to your case and take it down to the police station. Ask friends and neighbors for any evidence which they have as to suspicious behavior on the part of the stalker.

Stay within well-lit areas if you go out at night. Talk to people all of the time in person, on the phone and over the internet so that your activities can be traced and documented and so that someone knows about it if the stalker shows up. Ask a friend to stay in your house with you, and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
