As stated above, Atro-Phex shares several ingredients in common with other fat burner and weight loss products, but it contains many other ingredients that focus on removing excess body water, sustaining energy levels, promoting fat as fuel during activity, and supporting insulin levels. This is why the product isn't classified as a straight fat burner (which, when you look at newer products with similar functions, like Mitotropin, is becoming increasingly popular).
The recommended dosage for Atro-Phex is to begin with one capsule on an empty stomach in the morning, about 30-45 minutes before you eat breakfast and then another capsule roughly four to five hours later. The packaging states to only take the second capsule "if suitable". I presume this means if you aren't having signs of too much stimulants in your system, such as nervousness, heart palpitations, or being overly energetic; essentially the same side effects as you'd get from too much caffeine. The amount of stimulants in one capsule are far below what most coffee and caffeinated soda or tea drinkers consume in one day, so most people will tolerate two single capsule doses in one day quite well.
One thing that may happen, besides the side effects listed above, is that the diuretic ingredients may cause gastrointestinal problems. If you experience cramping or diarrhea with this lower dose, I wouldn't suggest increasing the dose later unless your body builds a tolerance to it. The diuretic ingredients are all natural, but that doesn't preclude the possibility of inconvenient side effects. I mention this because, as a person with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, I understand that many people have sensitive systems that don't tolerate supplements well. I only experienced gastrointestinal symptoms when I reach the higher doses of this supplement.
Back to the dosage schedule: if you tolerate one capsule twice daily on an empty stomach, you can up the dose to two capsules twice daily the next day. This dosage is specified as the "accelerated results serving" on the packaging.
You can continue to increase the dosage on the third day to three capsules twice daily, then up to the maximum of four capsules twice daily on the fourth day. Eight capsules a day is called the "extreme results serving" on the packaging.
Of course, if you are getting the intended results of increased energy and mood enhancement with a lower dose, wait a few weeks to see if you are losing weight before increasing the dosage. This will not only decrease the stress on your adrenal system, but it will also make your supplements last longer.
Like all weight loss products, Atro-Phex is not going to magically make you lose weight. The increase in your resting metabolic rate may cause you to lose weight initially without any changes to your diet or exercise frequency, but in the long run it is meant to boost the results you achieve from your other weight loss activities. Even lower intensity exercises like walking and low impact aerobics classes will accelerate your fat loss with Atro-Phex.
Atro-Phex contains many ingredients that approach weight loss and fat loss from different angles. The more traditional fat burning ingredients, which BSN calls the "Adispose Atrophy and Energy Stimulator Matrix" ingredients, include: beta-Phenylethylamine, beta-Phenylethylamine Malate, Hordenine HCL, Methylxanthine, i-FAS50, Green tea leaves, Tuber Fleeceflower Root, Chinese Mistletoe stem, DL-Phenylanine, Razberi-K, Bitter Orange Naringin, Advantra Z, Bioperine (black pepper and piperine), and Yohimbine HCL.
The "Mood and Mental Performance Optimizers" are: N-Acetyl-I-Tyrosine-Ethyl-Ester Monohydrate, Vitamin B6, Common Periwinkle, Vinburnine, Vinpocetine, Vincamine, and vitamin B9.
The "Aqua-Retic Matrix" (known to us less jargon-ized folks as natural diuretics!) include: Juniper berry extract, Dandelion leaf, Lovage, and European Goldenrod.
For insulin support the supplement contains a brand of cinnamon extract called Cinnulin PF, which is made from bark.
Finally, the "Pro-Thyroid Amplifier" (which from what I know seems closest to thermogenics or things that boost resting metabolism) ingredients are: 7-Keto and Dicana.
BSN recommends stacking Atro-Phex with other products they produce for maximum fat loss and muscle retention. For women these products are: Cheater's Relief (a carb and fat calorie blocker), Lean Dessert Protein (a whey protein powder- I've had the chocolate and it is one of the best tasting protein mixes I've ever tasted), Nitrix (nitric oxide booster-which causes vaso-muscular dilation), and N.O. Explode (pre-training formula).
For men they recommend stacking Atro-Phex with: Syntha-6 (slow release protein powder), Nitrix, N.O. Explode, Cell Mass (post training/night time recovery), Volumaize (carbohydrate and amino acid supplement for use during training), and Axis-HT (testosterone amplifier).
Personally, I've only used Atro-Phex with non-BSN products at one time. I find the energy that it gives me can be a bit overwhelming. It can give you a feeling bordering on euphoria at times (which many products promote as a benefit- for me it can result in embarrassingly loud talking and bizarre ideas). It makes me feel more sociable and outgoing than usual, which I should include that I tend to be quiet until I get to know someone and a bit shy, so it sort of negates these natural tendencies for me. I have stacked Atro-Phex with a multivitamin, essential amino acids, BCAAs, whey and casein protein products, and nitric oxide boosters. I found that it works quite well in giving me energy even when dieting and doing 5-6 days of weight training and cardio (sometimes twice a day).
