How to Lose Weight Quick for that Upcoming Cruise Vacation

Dropping Excess Pounds for Spring Vacation

Randall Schoff
Recently I climbed on the bathroom scale and just about dropped over when I saw the numbers. I was the heaviest I've ever been in my life. The winter time blues had caught up with me. That was four weeks ago. I decided to do the low carb thing. In three weeks I was sixteen pounds lighter. Granted, the heavier you are, the faster it comes off. But my wife, who wasn't that overweight, went on the diet too, and she lost 13 pounds in the three weeks. I didn't follow the Atkins book. I just watched my carbs. I've eaten fruit, and even had Subway once a week and the tonnage kept falling off.

We are going on a cruise in a month, so I truly think this is the diet to do if you want to trim down in a hurry. Some people have told me that they gained weight on this diet. I just don't believe that. If you're in doubt whether to eat something or not, look at the label on the back. I generally won't eat it if one serving is over ten carbs. There are all kinds of low carb foods out there now. Bread, ice cream, snack bars, tortillas, all seems to satisfy that carb addiction that many of us have these days.

Sure I've cheated a couple times. Big deal. Just get back on track and don't blow all that hard work. Excercise helps, but honestly, I haven't done much of that action. In four weeks I've lost two inches around my waist. That's the neat thing about this diet, you may see a plateau on the scale now and then, but the inches keep diminishing. Clothes start fitting better and even your attitude becomes more positive. My wife has said that my face has better color...my eyes appear brighter. You start finding unexpected energy through the day, and not wanting that mid-afternoon nap, a bad habit I got into.

Another key to this diet is drinking lots of water. This is true for any diet, or even if you're not on a diet at all. It is my experience that you should cut out all diet drinks for the first four to six weeks of this diet. I was hooked on Crystal Light lemonade for months, if not years. I put fresh cut orange slices in it and wow, what an addictive drink. It is healthier than chugging a six pack of Pepsi everyday, but it has its drawbacks. For me, diet drinks give a false sense of sugar intake, leaving you wanting more. Plus, some people get headaches and other side effects from the unnatural chemicals in these drinks. You just can't go wrong with water. It truly cleanses your body and your mind. So, drink as much as you can handle.

Eat all the protein you want. Go easy on the fatty meats. I like chicken, fish, ground beef, pork, steaks, seafood, hot dogs without the bun, sardines(if you can stand the smell), and any kind of cheese. I incorporate fruits and vegetables into my everyday intake. Yes I know that some of these are high in carbs, but I believe anything made by nature is good for you. Breakfast for me is usually a hardboiled egg and maybe a V-8 juice. I'd stay away from the greasy bacon and sausage. It doesn't feel right to eat that dripping nasty stuff. And for snacks, I've really gotten into nuts. It's amazing how satisfying they are, even replacing the craving for chocolate. I have several varieties at hand: sunflowers, pecans, walnuts, pistachios. If you must have chocolate, try sugar-free Jell-O puddings. But go easy on that, it leaves you wanting more, and there are calories in those kinds of snacks. As a general rule, I try to stay away from any food that is man made.

Try this for a month and watch the pounds and inches drop off. Get ready for that cruise or vacation on the beach. Go ahead and splurge during your time away, then just hop back on that low carb train when you get home.
