How to Lose Weight While on Vacation

Amy Brantley
You've worked hard to fit into that bikini and vacation time is right around the corner. You know you still need to lose a bit more weight and are worried about how your vacation will affect your weight loss. Is it possible to enjoy your vacation and continue to lose weight? Yes. It all begins with making the right plans and doing a bit of research.

Choose a Hotel Carefully

Many people on vacation make the excuse not to exercise because there's no equipment available. You can easily avoid this by booking a hotel that offers a gym. While some hotels have a couple pieces of broken down equipment and call it a gym, there are hotels that offer gyms that rival your local gym. The key to finding these hotels is to read reviews and look for pictures of the actual gym offered at the hotel. You may have to pay a bit more, or may even have to pay a separate fee to use the gym, but it's well worth the money. Before your day starts, you can hit the gym and burn a few calories before going out to breakfast.

Research Local Restaurants

One of the biggest problems people encounter when trying to lose weight on vacation is the food. It's normal for people to go on vacation and indulge in high fat foods, but it doesn't have to be this way at every meal. Instead of consuming high fat meals throughout the day, look for restaurants that offer low fat meals. This way, you can at least eat two healthy meals a day. Be sure to read the reviews to make sure the restaurants are high quality and that the low fat options are delicious. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed and heading for the nearest ice cream shop.

Schedule Calorie Burning Activities Into Your Day

Last, but certainly not least, make sure to plan activities that promote weight loss. It might be a hike in the woods, a swim in the ocean or even a round of golf (without the use of a cart to travel the course). Either way, look for activities that are fun, but will also burn calories. This is a wonderful way to combat any unhealthy foods you may choose to eat while on vacation and many of these activities can even be done for free. If you're unsure of what to do once you arrive at your vacation destination, consult the front desk staff at your hotel. Hotels always have brochures and information available on activities to do in the immediate area.
