You Do Not Need To Starve Yourself
The first thing women and men (especially women) do when they decide that they want to lose weight is to stop eating. This is definitely not the way to go if you want to be successful in keeping the weight off. You have to learn to cut down your portions of food, not completely eliminate your food intake. What this means is that instead of eating 2 eggs, two pieces of toast, bacon, and 2 pancakes for breakfast, eat 2 eggs, one piece of toast, bacon and one pancake. This will take away some of the calories everyday that your body is use to and the your calorie intake will begin to reduce. When you lose weight slowly, it is more effective than losing weight at a rapid rate.
Throw Those Scales Away
Do not keep getting on the scale. This is one of the top ways to cause yourself stress during your weight loss period. If you want to know how much weight you have lost, then weigh yourself once every other week. If you keep weighing yourself on a daily period and you see no results, then you start to get depressed and stressed out thinking that it is not working when it actually is. It just takes time and patience to start seeing real results.
You Do Not Need To Join A Gym
Most gyms are basically a social gathering for men and women to show themselves off. I have only found a few gyms that actually help people with their weight loss, instead they promote nothing but social skills.. Taking that into perspective, you do not have to worry about joining a gym to lose weight. Taking a walk around the block every night is more than enough exercise to start out with. Eventually your body does get use to the walking and you will begin to take longer walks and enjoy it. If you happen to have a set of stairs in your house, at work, or even in your apartment complex, walking up and down them twice a day is just as effective. And it takes no time at all do so either.
Stay Away From Exercise CD's
Rushing out of the house to buy expensive exercise CD's is just a waste of time and money. Yes they can work if you are use to doing exercises often, however if you are not use to exercising I can guarantee that after just a couple of days of doing the exercise tapes your body is going to be so sore that you will just stop and give up. This is something that you do not want happening. Keeping up with a specific exercise everyday is what you need, not something you start and end within a weeks time.
Do Not Buy Diet Pills
This is a very important tip to remember when losing weight. Do not think that a pill is going to help you lose weight, no matter how expensive or popular it has become. You might think that after seeing infomercial after infomercial that "Jane" has lost 40 pounds in four weeks is a miraculous task, but in reality "Jane" lost 40 pounds in four weeks and gained 50 back in three. Diet pills are just a quick solution to an ever growing problem.
Take this advice from someone who knows all to well what happens when you take diet pills. I myself about 10 years ago wanted to lose the weight I had gained with one of my pregnancies, and I wanted to lose it fast. I went to the doctors and was prescribed the ever so famous Fen-Phen diet pills. Paid $75.00 for 30 pills for the month. Took the pills faithfully every single day, and yes I saw the results immediately. That is because I stopped eating, only drank instant coffee all day long, and was basically having the effects like I was taking speed. After just 2 months of taking the diet pills, I lost all the weight I had gained (80lbs), plus another 30lbs.
Was it worth it? Absolutely NOT ! Once I decided to come off the diet pills, the weight seem to stay off only because every time that I tried to eat anything my stomach would cramp up so bad that I would be in tears. My nerves were completely shot due to the excessive amounts of caffeine I had been taking while on the diet pills.I also became an insomniac from the pills and the caffeine mixture, and with having four kids at the time, it is not something that I would ever recommend to anyone. The weight did eventually start to pile on once again, however I learned the tricks to finally keeping it off and staying healthy. Stay away from all diet pills!
Stay Away From Pre-Packaged Diet Foods
You have seen them on every channel and every search engine possible. Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and even Richard Simmons. These do work of course while you are eating them. Once you stop eating and spending the money every week, the weight comes back faster than a freight train. The whole concept of these pre-packaged diet foods is so that you keep spending the money to make them rich. Nothing else. Stay away from them, portion out your own foods that you can buy in any grocery stores.
Drink Lots of Liquids
One thing everyone always says is that you have to only drink gallons and gallons of water to lose weight. This is not true by any means. Drinking is a key way to shed off some excess pounds, but it does not always have to be water. You can drink water, iced tea, and fruit juices, it causes the same reaction as water does, and tastes a whole lot better.
Drink Something Before You Eat Anything
This is one of the best tips to cutting your food portions down. Drinking a glass of water, tea, or juice will definitely fill part of your stomach up before eating. This allows you to eat smaller portions then you usually do when you do not drink something before eating. It's a very easy fix to something that seems to be so complicated to many.
Lose Weight For Yourself, Not For Others
This is the one thing that I always tell people who ask me about losing weight. Never lose weight because someone is not happy with the way you look. If you are happy and healthy with how you are, then there is no need for you to lose weight at all. In today's society people have this annoying concept that makes people think that they have to be this and that to be a part of it. This is not true, and you should never worry how others see you. All you have to do is remember that this is your body and you have to be happy with how you look. You do not have to go out of your way to make anyone happy but yourself. If you are 50lbs. more than the other person, but you are happy with it, then smile your biggest smile and be happy.
Do Not Beat Yourself Up If You "Oops"
If you happen to eat a piece or two of chocolate cake and then afterwards start beating yourself up, stop ! Everyone is allowed to eat however much they want without feeling guilty about doing it. There is nothing wrong with splurging. Nothing at all. I myself become a serious pig when I go out to eat at the chinese buffet. Do I feel guilty? Not at all, this is my life and I only have one so why worry about stuffing my face with chinese food for one night out of the week. I enjoy every single bite and so should you.
My advice to you is simple, stay healthy, do not beat up your body with strenuous exercise, drink as often as you can, stay away from fad diets and diet pills, lose weight for yourself and not others, and last but not least, if you want that five layer lasagna by all means EAT IT !!!
