We made our own wedding invitations using a computer, printer and a card creator program. My mother and I found which ones we liked the best and then showed my fiancee to see what his opinion was. We decided on the best one we liked, and added our own message to the invitations. I then went to the craft department at Walmart and bought several different embellishments to make the cards unique as well as making them look fairly fancy.
My husband and I met at Vincennes University, so we thought it would be special to be married on the Vincennes University campus. We called around and found out that we could rent a little church on campus called Maria Creek that is actually a very historical church. They told us that the church rental for all day would be $120, and included a reception hall in the basement. We told a few close family members about it, and my mother offered to pay for it as our wedding gift. Now that's cheap!
We had several other people asking us what we needed, and one of them asked us if we had a wedding cake yet. We did not, so she told us to go and pick one out, and let her know what the bill was and she would send the money to pay for it. We checked several places and found a beautiful cake for $125 at Walmart of all places that was a 3 tier layered cake.
For flowers we had a small vase in every other window sill of the church that contained 2 roses each, symbolizing the two of us joining in marriage. We also had two vases at the front of the church next to our unity candles.
My husband and the groomsmen wore black dress pants and white shirts. My bridesmaid and flower girl each wore light pink dresses that were fairly inexpensive but beautiful. I found my dress on sale at JCPenney's.
Just remember that many of the most elaborate weddings fail. An extravagant wedding does not make the marriage.

Post a CommentMy fiance and I have been together for 6 years and we decided to finally get married. I personally am dreing this so much because everyone expects us to have the usual fancy wedding (that costs a pretty penny and then some!) and I'm just not up for going broke or into debt over somethign like this. Since when did this act of love become all about money???
Thank you for this, my fiance and I want a very small wedding and it's been depressing looking at the costs. We are just in love and want to get married, not go broke trying to prove it to everyone around us. This is very helpful :D
Very creative cost-saving ideas. Sounds like you kept it special!
