You will need several tools to lower the 1968 Camaro:
Floor jack
Jack stands
Lug wrench
3/8-inch drive ratchet
Set of 3/8-inch drive sockets
Ball joint separator
Hammer
Wire cutter
Large adjustable pliers
Bearing cap remover tool
2-inch drop spindles
2-inch drop blocks for the rear
Longer U clamps
STEP 1: Raise and support the front of the car on jack stands.
STEP 2: Remove the wheels.
STEP 3: Remove the brake caliper by removing the two bolts securing the caliper to the mounting plate. Hang the caliper from the coil spring.
STEP 4: Remove the bearing cap in the center of the rotor, cotter pin, and the bearing retaining nut. Pull the rotor off the spindle, making sure not to drop the bearings out of the rotor.
STEP 5: Remove the cotter pin in the tie rod end. Remove the nut from the bottom of the tie rod end.
STEP 6: Insert the ball joint separator between the tie rod end and the spindle and strike the tool with the hammer until the tie rod end separates from the spindle.
STEP 7: Remove the cotter pin from the upper and lower ball joints.
STEP 8: Place the floor jack under the lower control arm securely and raise the jack until it begins to raise the car.
STEP 9: Remove the ball joint stud nuts on the upper and lower control arms. Insert the ball joint separator between the spindle and the ball joint on the upper and then lower control arm again striking the tool with the hammer until the two pieces separate.
STEP 10: Lift the upper control arm to clear the upper arm of the spindle and lift the spindle off the lower control arm.
STEP 11: Install the 2-inch drop spindle in reverse order of removal.
STEP 12: Raise and support the rear of the car by placing the jack stands under the frame.
STEP 13: Place the floor jack under the driver's side of the axle housing and lift the floor jack just enough to contact the axle housing.
STEP 14: Remove the nuts on the U-clamps on the driver's side of the axle housing.
STEP 15: Raise the driver's side of the axle housing enough to lift it off the spring.
STEP 16: Insert the 2-inch block between the axle and spring and align the center post with the hole in the axle housing seat. Lower the axle down on top of the block.
STEP 17: Install the new U-clamps, the nuts and tighten securely. Do the same to the opposite side.
Now your Camaro is lowered and you're ready to ride!
